Paco Pena CD recommendations?

After watching Paco Pena live and all the vids that I could find on youtube, I really like the clarity and power with which he plays. Does any one have a favorite Paco Pena CD or two that they can recommend? I'd like to add him to my collection.

Cheers!

I recently picked up the "Flamenco" album (that's the whole title). Beautiful. Simple + very traditional melodies, but it's really a breath of fresh air in a way.

EDIT: I'm curious, I'm familiar with a bunch of the falsetas, esp. the solea and bulerias ones, on that album. Are those all original falsetas or did PP take some of them + record with them? I know guitarists always use other falsetas but I never knew if they would record with other people's....

Hi Rampart,

A lot of the falsetas PP uses are from Ramón Montoya

I just picked up the "Art of Paco Pena" which has a lot of traditional compilations and also "Flamenco Guitar" which is a two disc set basically of his Azahara CD and his "Music of Montoya y Ricardo". I had a chance to meet him after his show with my teacher who has known him for many years. Both of them are quite short in stature, but boy can they rip on the guitar. He was a really nice guy and really approachable. I cant wait to see him perform again.

Get them all.

Start with Azahara, then get Arte y pasión, then get the one in which he plays Montoya and Niño Ricardo, then get the old ones.

I have noticed that Luthier Music in New York has almost all of them http://www.luthiermusic.com , of course http://www.flamencon.com also has most of them.

Happy listening.

He has a Fandango on the fusion album with Inti Illimani and John Williams that is really kick butt. It is worth it just for that one track. Something about the sound of the Andes mountains Indian band, and the guitars...the ultimate folkloric guitar sound.
