To hear ourselves as others hear us

Yet another book I thought I'd share with everyone.

The title to this post, "To Hear Ourselves as Others Hear Us", is the name of a book written by classical pianist James Boyk. Boyk is a pianist in residence at Cal-Tech. He has written a book with helpful hints for the technique of recording ones-self.

There are some F-F posters who I think would be interested.

I still have not bought the book yet. It is on my list however, and if no one else buys it before me I'll review it when I get it. If someone else has it, post a review.

The title of this post I think can only be achieved trough recording oneself, Its painful, and brutal, but its difficult to hear yourself critically when concentrating on technique and trying to listen at the same time. Also learning the vagaries of recording and hardware purchasing can use up valuable time that could be spent practicing the guitar.

I agree Paleto, i think this book might take 60 or 100 pages to cover something that could be covered in 10.
In my view this might be a good book to have but depending how much it costs and if you have all the other books.
All the information he gives you about recording etc is available for free on the net just do a search on google on recording tips etc.

I suspect that the most valuable thing in there will be tips on how to objectively critique your playing, as well as some experience in musical problem solving.

The book is cheap - $9.95 I think.

Boyk is a music researcher as well as pianist and has a formidable knowldge of high quality recordings - audiophile level recordings.

Well thats cheap, so i guess the practice alone will make it worth it, there is one good review on it.

Friends,

Sometimes it will take 10 pages to understand 1 item, when you are familiar with the material and the art, you can withstand with one page.

For the beginner, like I am, sometimes it is hard to understand the words and verbs.
I become more and more familiar with the flamenco "language".

Don't understand me wrong, but the most of you are "pro's" in this world.

And I like it
