Im in the market for a metronome and would appreciate it if anyone could recommend a brand or model#. There are digital ones that are solely metronomes and ones that combine the tuning function with the metronome. If any one could could recommend a particular model, that would be very helpful.
You can download weirdmetronome at "weirdmetronome.com" A "real"metronome is the Sabine mt-8000 which has a tuner and a nice sound ( which is very important to me )
I have one of the old-fashioned clockwork ones, made by Wittner. Nice and simple. Of course it doesn't do anything flamenco, but I have Cubase for that.
I would recommend buying a programmable drum machine and using that. The company "Boss" does some good ones. here's an example:
Just don't post any music with a drum machine as background. They get really angry if you do that....
Thats what compas loops are for. You can buy numerous CDs with pre-made compas loops, or just create them yourself using software. If you can alter the tempo too, its probably better than a metronome. lets face it, "beep-beep-beep" ain't really "muy flamenco". But some of these drum machines are quite sophisticated these days... I think you can add hand-claps on some of them, and I bet you could get a sound that is at least close to a cajon.

Bash, I hope you mean "allegedly" (unless you have solid evidence)
Sorry Ron... I'll edit that post... don't wanna get anyone into trouble. Although another member (who is probably not in Miguel's good books- hint! ) says it is true. But lets say "allegedly" for now.

RE: Metronome recommendation (in reply to JBASHORUN)
I think the guys who got the Mundobeat together had a nice idea technically, but you'd probably make more profit from selling secondhand Furbies on eBay, personally speaking. The market in this area is very small. I think that's why they stopped making 'em Small quantity production costs are very high, you've got the problem with shipping etc and the product had too high a price tag IMO. Personally speaking, I would very much doubt if this small outfit would have had the resources to "pay" Tomatito, who can command thousands of dollars for an hour-and-a half performance.... Maybe they gave him a frebee and he genuinely liked it! Anyway, good on the creators for trying it out and good luck to them in the future. Hardware-wise and Presentation-wise, I think they didn't get it quite right..(speaking as a Design Engineer in my former life...but that's just my own personal opinion..) Price, I'd say don't worry about it. Make it right and people will buy it... That's been proved time and time again with Mobile Phones..iPods etc. But that's easy to say in retrospect. If you've got an original Mundobeat then hang on to it... They'll probaby be exchanging hands for hundreds of dollars on eBay in years to come!
cheers
Ron

Apparently they are BACK in production. At least they were when I last spoke to the manufacturer. And Nealf ordered one recently, which where I got some of my info from. He also says they didn't get it quite right.
But I think the "kiss of death" may have been getting Ottmar Liebert to promote them... does he actually play anything that requires much compas?
