Available rosettes?
I'm getting substantial pressure to build again, and I'm sitting on the fence on the decision, but if I DIDN'T want to make my own rosettes, does anyone know where more might be found?
I've found:
Schramm's (I used a Russian one for my first. VEry nice, but they're actually slightly bigger than a standard rosette?? Odd...) LMII Stew Mac Some Oz guy I saw who has a tapered-body style guitar on his site And saw that Madinter site today
Nothing is really setting me on fire, and I'm looking for a 'rose' or Reyes-ish pattern. Anyone know of anywhere else?
Schramm offered to make a Reyes pattern, but he needs like 50-100 orders to produce. :-(
To be honest with you James, I can't remember where I downloaded that pic. I think it was back when I decided I couldn't afford a luthier made guitar, and was toying around with the idea of building my own.
When I came across this particular rosette, I thought "Wow", and started to research the art of chip carving hoping it would give me some insight as to how exactly that rosette might have been made.
Sorry for going off topic. I know Ramon was looking for a premade rosette, but thought I would post that pic in the event Ramon was considering making a custom rosette.
Thats a beatiful one, Samwise! But is it available for sale? I bet it was custom made by a luthier, and therefore cannot be purchased alone...
Yeah, that's Jeffrey Elliot's signature chipwood and spalted maple rosette. He makes each one by hand for each guitar. They're insanely expensive guitars, too, if you can even find one for sale! One of the world's great makers.
but I'm still leaning towards a more 'Spanish' feel with some nice-but-not-overdone roses kind of pattern. There is a Russsian one like that, but it's got too much black in it for my taste...
Like that Elliot one....If I could get $7K+ for a guitar, it would be worth the time! Anders does some along those lines with Olive wood, and they are stunning.

See if you can find the webpage of the guy making the russian rosettes. He is in a town called Tula. He´s half price as Schramm and he acceps just a few, and he has a ton of designs.
I had the webpage once, but cant find it he also builds guitars.

Or why not make one yourself. I tell you, its woth the effort. Everyone asks you... Did you make the rosette as well? huh
Here you have a serious reason for me not making mosaic rosettes.... The quality of these production rosettes is very high and its almost impossible to compete, especially with these prices. Very few builders make their own rosettes nowadays, which is a pity IMHO, because its one of the few personal marks on a guitar. I have a lot of respect for those who make their own rosettes also mosaic rosettes. To use production rosettes is one step into making production guitars. The worst are the ones using factory rosettes and not saying so.....
Since I dont like to put someone elses work of art into my guitars, I make something different and besides, I prefer wood inlay rosettes. The Jeffrey elliot rosette is one of the rosettes which has inspired me the most. One day I will learn to do chipcarving.
