Pics from spain

Just back from the road. Here is a pic from Spain. I have more on the other computer I will add later. Here is a juerga with some friends in Sanlucar:

That is, L to R, Gerado Nunez, Eric Steen, Javier Conde, a friend (sorry man!), and me, accompanying some singers from Jerez. That is Jesus mendez in the blue shirt.

And here with dancer Carmen:

Yeah, I was wondering about that too.... Especially that guy on the left, with a red shirt and white trousers. Is he any good?

Sorry, I didn't mean the persons on the photo. I meant the students in general.

Great pictures Ricardo!
Tell me was Javier there as a student or assistant teacher or what?
After all, I think Estela (Zata) said he did a recital last year in Jerez and went down really well.
Looks like you all had a great time there!
Amazing!

cheers

Ron

Students were of all levels. There were some players much better than me, and total beginners too. Javier was a student there just like myself. He is really great for his age, but still has lots to learn, and fortunately is eager to learn and get better. There is a younger player than Javier from France who also plays very advanced pieces, but like the rest of us in class, recognizes the need to get better at compas and technique, etc.

There was a "guitar night" where the students could perform a piece if they wanted. No one was obligated, just whoever was brave enough to play in front of all those great players in the audience. Gerardo tried to organize it in order of what he felt was lower level to most advanced. There was one surprise, a young turkish student was much more advanced than expected and was in the middle of the order. Towards the end there was Nino Manuel from sanlucar (very advanced, should have gone last), Eric Steen, myself, Javier Conde, and Antonio Rey was last (not a student, but a surprise guest). So that was the feel for the order, but there were many great players who did not want to perform that night. Miguel Iven for instance, my friend pictured above on the left by Nick, his name is Federico from France, amazing player, and Tino of course. Tino was teaching the repeat class once again, but did not play much this year.

Anyway more pictures coming soon.

Here I am at the student recital, a surreal bulerias jam with all the guitar students. Eric (not pictured, off to the right of Javier) and I trade solos over the intro:

Gerardo accompanies Guadiana:

Another juerga, I have Gerardo's conde, Federico has my Sanchis, Eric Steen has the mic:

Gerardo teaches class:

Castillo where we had the student recital. Really pretty. That is nick's head:

Yea-Erik was there and we just happened to be roommates. I wasn't very excited about having a roommate at first but he was very cool and helped me out alot. He is an incredible player which sometimes didn't come through enough during the performances!! Oh yeah and that night when Gerrardo accompanied Guardina was the best guitar playing I have ever seen and it really blew everyone away! Nick

Here are two more special pics. I ran into one of my favorite singers on the street in the plaza where I was eating. Luis el Zambo:

And one night I caught Guadiana alone and started playing the falseta from "Casa del Herrero...". When I started to sing it he grabbed my guitar from my hands and accompanied me! Really fun guy!

Oh, my... All those wicked guitarists under one sky, plus Guadiana and Zambo. This is too much, you are killing me with delight.

May I ask... what is the atmosphere like at the jams/master classes/juergas? Can it be tense or competitive? To me it sounds like a dream, but I would want to just chat and joke around with everyone all at once, maybe that wouldn't fly. Then again I don't speak Spanish anyway (sigh).

Con

p.s. Guadiana is probably a good guitar player too like Potito and Camaron, no?

this is icked it must be so weird you buy theyr cds see theyr videos and one day they just walk past you on a street.

Anither guitarist here who went to some festival last year said he saw Tomatito in the foreare of one of the concerts and i gues he didnt think he just stared with a smille (couldnt quite get used to it).

Apparently Tomatito had one of those looks like "wtf is wrong with this weirdo?"

lol
