Do you have this type of neck wear?

Careful, you might get a jumpscare

The guitar of mine has been played since the past 3.5 years. Granted it's been played a lot, just wondering if it's normal or maybe an indication of bad neck finish [won't be surprised].

Shared it on reddit and people said I have sweaty hands [not true, I sweat very less], I apply too much pressure on the neck [not true], it's been played a lot [true], the finish is not great [unsure and could be true].

yes it is normal for French polish or light finish in general. I just had my Jeronimo Peña Fernandez refinished in the same spot and told my student that did the job to make it extra thick. Because it is applied in layers after each dries it took a long time. I already know I will need this job again for my Faulk 19th century guitar at some point.

Many luthiers don't like poly urethane on guitars these days, however, I greatly prefer it on the back of the neck for this reason.

Nice to know that. Then I am not really worried anymore, because it helps with grip due to the increased friction. Without this type of wear, the thumb tends to slip a little .

Yup I’m getting ready to top off the polish on the neck of the guitar I built. Although it is definitely not that worn! Prefer it uniform in feel

Upload it on this website: https://imgbb.com/

I think the forum doesn't accept image uploads anymore.

I am curious to see your pic. What's the age of your guitar btw?

Interesting. I have a french polished guitar and its nearly 10 years old. I have nothing close to that level of wear. (maybe I'm not playing enough! )

is that neck 3 made in parts? Ive also not seen that before. is that a repair?

Here's mine:

https://ibb.co/SwK8nLNq
https://ibb.co/WWTXYRNK

My neck is much lighter in color, and I struggled to have a good shot..
My blanca is from 2010, but I had it entirely refinished once, because of the wear

I have similar wear on the back where it's contacting my chest..
I don't have sweaty hands, nor do I grab the neck too strong...

Do you mean if the neck is made in 3 parts? If so, nope. The neck is one complete part, maybe that finish design is making you think it's separated? But it's not. The neck has also never been worked on before.

sorry maybe my bad description....

the two parts id normally expect would be the heel block and the main neck.

It looked to me like there's a long curved join just below the headstock? (which made me think there's a 3rd part) but maybe that's just the finish design? like you say.

Practically all spanish guitars are made such that the neck and head are two separate parts via cutting off from the same piece and flipping it around to make the back angle. In some cases special types of joints are used like on my Dad's guitar this V style joint or scarf joint:

I think what stu means is that yours appears to have been done very low on the neck below the head. You can sort of see by the grain that is the case but because your finish is coming off at the same spot it is not real clear.

RE: Do you have this type of neck wear? (in reply to Ricardo)

yes exactly.
(so really all necks are 3 pieces. (cos I wasn't counting the scrarf joint)
So yeah
1.heel
2.neck proper and
3. headstock/scarf joint)
.....so i was thinking 4 pieces then! like there was another join lower than the scarf joint.

I did consider that may be where the headstock joint is. but if that IS where the headstock is joined, Id be interested to know how would you get the angle if the join was done that far down the neck.

Change the way you hold your guitar neck or cut your left hand thumbnail short.

my brain says that sharp curve can only be where there's 2 pieces joined!

be god to see the whole neck with the head stock too
