Anyone listened to the Fifa world cup official single Goals? The opening scale sounds familiar to me. Is it phrygian? I guess the main phrase is in phrygian as well. I can tell you you're gonna be hearing this banger all summer. It will be performed at the opening ceremony.

Any reason why Ab Lydian? Ab Lydian and G phrygian share the same notes. If it resolves to G, it must be G phrygian. No?
If you don't dig that rap verse, pre-chorus and chorus, feel the beat. It's rumba/son clave rhythm. | X- -X -- X- | -- X- X- -- | and | X- -X -- X- | -- X- X- -X | Traditionally it's one bar, not 2 bars as above. The main phrase is a keyboard sound superimposing the beat.

The way it is executed suggests tension and release. Play an Ab chord under that run then resolve to G with the piano. If you instead play a G chord, the B and Bb clash unnecessarily, and if you play G minor it does not sound right...Ab to G sounds like the intent of the phrase. You can also try F minor as that also works (F Dorian). Since there is no actual chord, to my ear the Ab is implied.
It's a 'meh' from me, Bob. It's just Ad music, nothing about it moves me. Some Ad music does but not this. Even the film seems unimaginative, it's been done before, that menacing underground football match with some chains and flames and geezers grimacing as they kick a ball through a concrete wall, while the wimmin dance and flirt and grin and shake their cute little booties. It's a bit fakking embarrassing in this day and age. Although I guess Trump is flying the flag for the good old days of everyday sexism and casual child abuse, and a lot of people seem to like that sh1t.
I won't be watching any of this World Cup. There are too many ethical concerns. I didn't watch the last one either for the same reason.
