Anyone listened to the Fifa world cup official single Goals? The opening scale sounds familiar to me.
Is it phrygian? I guess the main phrase is in phrygian as well.
I can tell you you're gonna be hearing this banger all summer. It will be performed at the opening ceremony.

The opening chord is G major, but the naked descending scale is using Bb, never B natural, so for my ear projects as Ab lydian until it resolves on G at the conclusion.

Any reason why Ab Lydian? Ab Lydian and G phrygian share the same notes.
If it resolves to G, it must be G phrygian. No?

If you don't dig that rap verse, pre-chorus and chorus, feel the beat. It's rumba/son clave rhythm.

Traditionally it's one bar, not 2 bars as above.
The main phrase is a keyboard sound superimposing the beat.

The way it is executed suggests tension and release. Play an Ab chord under that run then resolve to G with the piano. If you instead play a G chord, the B and Bb clash unnecessarily, and if you play G minor it does not sound right...Ab to G sounds like the intent of the phrase. You can also try F minor as that also works (F Dorian). Since there is no actual chord, to my ear the Ab is implied.

It's a 'meh' from me, Bob. It's just Ad music, nothing about it moves me. Some Ad music does but not this. Even the film seems unimaginative, it's been done before, that menacing underground football match with some chains and flames and geezers grimacing as they kick a ball through a concrete wall, while the wimmin dance and flirt and grin and shake their cute little booties. It's a bit fakking embarrassing in this day and age. Although I guess Trump is flying the flag for the good old days of everyday sexism and casual child abuse, and a lot of people seem to like that sh1t.

I won't be watching any of this World Cup. There are too many ethical concerns. I didn't watch the last one either for the same reason.

I think you're looking at it from a different angle. I wanted to add that long scale run to my picado repertoire. That's all.

You can think of it as por arriba. We play E major chord and E phrygian scale. Same deal with G chord and G phrygian or capo on the 3rd fret and we play E phrygian scale. Whoever produced this song has access to flamenco music.

Firstly "access"....like its some secret music that only a select few can listen to?

secondly...your evidence doesn't prove your claim.

thirdly.
Cirkut, Bava, PinkSlip, and Tropkillaz are the producers....who cares if they have access to flamenco music? even if one of them does like flamenco or have access...what does it matter? the tune is garbage and you'll learn nothing from it.

Not me. With Capo three it is F lydian, just like in all the flamenco palos por arriba when we run similar scales. Phrygian is the overall KEY center but the scale alone with naturals is the Lydian or just call it "the natural scale over an F major Harmony". AT the moment it resolves (to E major) the G# changes the natural "scale" but there is no scale happening anymore, just a stable chordal triad. Basically the Scale is creating the tension of the cadence (F, Dm or B diminished resolving to E).

This is valid. Not just "nowadays" it always was.

However, the scale and chord is generic if not stereotypical of Spain in general, not unlike the arabic hi jazz desert camera cobra music of the Middle East. It is a "Phrygian fetish" as that one guy put it very nicely, that westerners have and film score guys always use in their bag of tricks. Why fake football (girls soccer that some men play too) needs it is anyone's guess (is Spain doing well this season? I wouldn't know as I don't follow rigged sporting events).

Two ways a composer would demonstrate "access" to a guy like me would be proper compás expression, or a specific cante melody. Otherwise it is superficial aka generic insulting stereotypes.

oh so by access you mean actually involved with or deeper understanding of flamenco than say someone whos heard a few spanishy melodies or listened to some rumba on spotify?

ok fair enough. but yeah I dont think this scale is evidence of that.
