Paco Pena Misa Flamenca

I’ve been playing this for a few years now but hadn’t seen it mentioned on the Foro. I’m a hard core atheist but I find this music compelling to say the least.

Well, I can re-watch it and and break down the Palos since he doesn't explicit state them. There is Bamberas, Peteneras, Granaina, etc., curiously no Soleá that I remember. He tunes to Rondeña I remember, I can go through it later. But this is curious, considering the religious thing going on.

First, they are in Mezquita I think (or another similar church) which is a preserved Muslim/Arabic architecture or temple or mosque (not sure the origin history). And the Catholic christians have re-purposed/organized a small section of it with the typical Catholic ornate Iconography to do the worshiping. I remember being there, and as someone raised Catholic I was like "why the heck did they even allow this? Why not smash down the entire structure or overhaul the ENTIRE building??". So it is, to me, outrageously small humble setting for a catholic mass to occur, in other words.

Lastly, they are doing the Catholic mass setting (Kyrie, Credo, Benedictus, Agnus Dei etc.), which is fine, but using secular songs (I now need to check the lyrics out to see if they are doing the mass ordinary, I don't think so, and it should be in Latin anyway, which of course it is not), and finally, the singer Guadiana (and most likely Cigala as well, not sure), are members of the evangelic culto (church of Filadelfia that many or most gitanos joined in the 2000s and earlier). So the entire affair is like this huge heretical blasphemy going on.

But, such is the beauty of mixing cultures, and Paco's Gerundino sounds great.
