The Amador brothers (Pata Negra). Yes that's a very nice scene.

Argh, Estevan beat me to it as I was typing this:

Man, there's a bunch of people at that party. The guitarists are Pata Negra: the brothers Raimundo and Rafael Amador. Others are Fernanda de Utrera, Paco Valdepeñas, and maybe Pepa de Utrera and Juana la del Revuelo. The two women sitting closest to Camarón are Aurora Vargas and Carmelilla Montoya (look at the cante starting at 5:46 and their reaction as it ends at about 6:05). Joselero is there, too.

At 5:02, the excellent and seldom recorded Cádiz bulería "Pásame el Estrecho." La Perla and Rancapino have great versions (more info here: http://www.foroflamenco.com/printable.asp?m=135542&mpage=1). At 7:59 a famous zambra of Manolo Caracol.

That's odd, a working link comes up if you Google this: obispa rancapino estrecho.

Oh well, this link should work:

Yeah...but not nearly as good as these cañoroto boys who have got MUCH more facility with the rhythm and ways of expressing the compás..

cheers,

Ron

Thanks guys!
Pata Negra sounds familiar, will do some research on those ones.

For me this is the best buleria I ever heard. The way camaron keeps the tention and keeps it even a few compases longer, and keeps the volume down and than explode. I love the dynamics in it.

Gracias amigos!

EDIT:
Is this somewhere available on DVD?

EDIT2:
I got sent a link to two albums of Pata Negra. What happend to them? Jazz, blues...
I'll stick by this video that they are great and pretent I've never heard their albums.

Yes it is, but I don't have the info here at the moment. I'll look it up later (or maybe Norman will get there first )

Ooh, that's lucky

They tried to combine 'blues' with flamenco (you can hear a little in the film with Camarón). At that time in Spain (the years after the death of Franco and the transition to democracy) there was a lot of experimentation and many people were excited about that kind of music. It seemed like a good idea at the time...now, not so much!

Now one of them (Raimundo) just plays electric guitar, Spanish style blues...the other one (Rafael) still appears i the background of other people's albums. Their younger brother Diego plays flamenco piano.

What you hear in the film is the best thing I've heard from them; but there must be other recordings where they play like this...?

Thanks for the info Estevan!

Never thought about that people in that period indeed were expermenting with other forms, and that flamenco as we know it nowadays just has survived (for obvious reasons )

From Diego Amador I actually liked a few songs from his albums, apart from the cheesy ones

Perfect if you can let me know from which DVD it is, thanks!

RE: WHo are those two guys in buleri... (in reply to Ricardo

I remember a few other episodes, at least I think they're part of the same documentary. In one of them, there's a bunch of people sitting and eating a lot of food that had been prepared for them (I think it's the first part of Kozz's party video). If I remember right, there's at least a few minutes of images of them eating while other people watch, as if it were part of the show. In another episode, they cook and eat a pig in the country and there's an image of one of the Pata Negra guys trying to play the guitar with the (black) hoof of the slaughtered pig.

The Amador brothers wouldn't be the same without those white socks.

In the Lole video:

0:24: cool "pentatonic" falseta.

2:10: another interesting variation of a Manuel Morao (the uncle) falseta. Periquín Jero, Pepe Morao and others have variations, too.

Sorry, I don't. It doesn't look that hard, if you're interested in learning it. If you're already trying and are having problems let me know and I'll have a look.

Thanks Norman, pretty much got it. What I'm not sure about is what chords the second guitar is playing - any idea?

Can't really tell, but they might be barred G minor and C7 chords:

---3-----1-----
---3-----1-----
---3-----3-----
---5-----2-----
---5-----1-----
---3-----3-----

Well that was pretty funny - I saw the heading on the index page and wondered who the two guys might be, and then saw all the answers and info here, thirteen years later - quite the little blast from the past.

Of course the film in question is now on Yutú.
The party starts at about 15:40, and Camarón appears at 23:16.
