Saddle shape

See how the string pass over the saddle. The string has larger area of contact with the saddle as compared to the wrong shape. The correct shape gives the maximum volume of sound and clear sounding notes on guitar. Can you guys confirm this?

Both are incorrect. Neither would give you the comfort needed for riding a horse.

A horse carrying wilt chamberlain could pass under those strings.

Ahhh, bold assertions based upon false premises…

To answer your question:

1 - if you fast forward the picture to 3:34 you can see how the string in the top “correct” diagram has begun to fray upon the knife edge provided by the saddle. This provides superior performance while “shredding” and is desirable.

2 - the “correct” configuration cannot be intonated. This shows a brilliance of execution on the part of the maker and highlights the skill of the player in working around it if the maker happens to “get it wrong” (hint: this is impossible with the makers on the Foro). Again, desirable.

3 - the “wrong” style can be intonated and allows for adjusting the string length to account for any minute bridge placement error made by the loser maker (not a Foro member). But it cannot provide the correct “snap” sound required by many virtuosi (such as yourself) when the frayed string breaks during a moment of furious rasqueadoo. Big lose. Not a win.

In conclusion, the “correct” shape is best suited for riding side-saddle, which is the only viable option when holding the guitar “Paco style”.

RE: Saddle shape (in reply to devilhand

I’ve been trying to find the right saddle shape for a while now. Some like the skinny slender ones, and others like fat ones. I find all of them hurt my butt or cut off circulation to my genitalia regions. There are some newer designs to try now, like the saddle sloped nose and the ones with the opening down the middle.

For guitar saddles, I have not noticed much of a difference in sound-volume between the right and wrong pictures, personally speaking.

Oops haha. Sorry devilhand.

Pretty random Ricardo. Was literally just having a discussion about Conan the destroyer! 😵

Probably haven't mentioned/heard of it in 30 years and now twice in as many minutes.

Western Pleasure or Dressage?

A good point.
