We discussed this song (lyrics same type of thing, different melody in this case) recently here:

The Alborea is sung at the gypsy wedding, and the lyrics discuss the tres luceros/rosas and the Pañuelo, as in they check the young brides virginity on the wedding day…that spawned a discussion about women viewed as property and culture etc, as you can see.

The singing in this video, at a glance, I was like “is he gypsy enough to sing this tune?”, cuz there are several payos that sing this and I am not so sure that is “ok’. But this guy here is Heredia which is a super gitano lineage so I assume he is in the green singing this stuff in public. This melody, in the major scale, is the one I am more familiar with than in the link above where it sounds phrygian or minor. The poetry is obviously a gypsy creation but I have not come across much discussion or analysis regarding the melodic forms that are used. (Referring to the extensive classifications done by the Solers and such with solea and siguiriyas, malagueñas etc)

The rest of the cante is similar to Romances/Solea that use the typical first and second line of verse for most styles (move Dm then back to tonic A), the cambio is to C7 instead of F (similar to Romances and polo or Caña type melodies). The last one, the guitarist makes an error at 3:58, thinking he was moving straight to the cambio, which he didn’t….he was embellishing the first line to the minor D chord. The singer is however excellent IMO, and the error the guitarist made was understandable.

oups, I am really sorry for this. Without listening to or understanding the letra I simply noted the enhancement of the harmonical spectrum of solea type palos. Now that you beat me to it I wonder if the gitano would give as much power as when singing about...well let's leave that.
