Don’t bother with me. I would echo the same sentiments exactly as John did. Only thing different is taste in rock guitar and modern flamenco guys. I switched to flamenco (jazz world music stuff first) BECAUSE of Nirvana/grunge etc., that whole movement I couldn’t tolerate. After the rock guitar started getting a little sophisticated, along comes this train out of Seattle of impolite obnoxious guitar strumming in the wrong key. I got into jazz via the jazz fusion thing, that I felt related to the metal guitar genre quite closely. PDL was the window into flamenco proper for me. My mentor was eventually (also from Cadiz) Nuñez, (Jerezano). Got to hang out a bit with Jose Manuel Leon there in Sanlucar a few times as well. He also came to DC twice (with Nuñez, and later with Rafael de Utrera).
Funny, I think your transition into flamenco was exactly mine as well, and many other folks. Rock or metal -> Bach -> Flamenco -> First Paco album.
Nirvana and grunge - I had a love hate relationship with some of this stuff. I liked the Nirvana MTV unplugged, but could never bite into the standard albums. They over stimulated my sympathetic nervous system! Looking back to the 90's, I think it was also what drove me to explore something different because of where rock was going.

Beato fans are all back patting with him all the time. Nobody has a discussion about the actual chord function? First of all B-C is NOT a flat 9th, in context, it is a MINOR SECOND. If the chord was constructed from B ROOT, then yes, but the song has a droning bass on D. The chord has to be looked at from D ROOT. So it is interval 6-7 of a D minor chord that is constructed. However the third and 5th are missing, even if implied by the rest of the song.
D-B-C-D-G low to high (not sure if E is used open). The double Ds ground the ear on D. It is like Dm11 with the B stuck in the middle (add 6th). Or Dm13 sus4 (no 5th as is typical).
