An interesting book

It is not often that we have an informed opinion of the cultura de Andalucia from 2 views.

Thanks, Morante.

Any idea where one could buy a copy of the book?
It was published by the Asociación de Amigos de Écija, but their website doesn't offer it for sale. No ISBN number appears for the book anywhere I have looked....

Looks like a good book. I’d buy it just because the illustration on the cover looks like a flamenco Dracula.

Wow that buleria

Hola Richard

Between difficult and impossible

When the Amigos told me it was out of print, we started to phone the bookshops in Éjica. Everybody knows Paco, seems to be a local celebrity. One of the bookshops spoke to him and he said he would speak to the Association.

But another bookshop said he had a copy on the shelf. Simple?? The owner of the bookshop was on paternity leave and seems he had left his great grandfather to look after the shop, who said he knew nothing about credit card, posting etc.

However, he must have called for help, as the phone rang while we were having a siesta, so now the books are on their way (he had 2 copies). They cost me 30 euros including postage. One is for you if you want it.

Suerte

No. The Paco Peña you are thinking of is he who used to buy guitars from Gerundino at low prices and sell them in London for a handsome profit

Uh-oh! Paco not as nice and benign as he seems, huh?

So Paco Peña was ripping off both Gerundino and his students (or whoever he sold them to)? That's a quite an accusation....

Pepe Martinez used to do more or less the same with Reyes guitars (used to buy from Reyes and sell in UK, not sure if he bought for "low prices" or made a "handsome profit").

Jingle too with Jerónimo Peña. I suppose it could be seen as a kind of social service, as these guitars were hard to find in U.K.

Although Sabicas seemed to use the same Jose Ramirez III cedar/cypress blanca for several years, it was rumored that he often had one for sale.

RE: An interesting book (in reply to Morante

Many thanks for the Quiko Peña book, Morante! It arrived yesterday, including a bonus, the CD "José Millán en Directo," produced and designed by Morante.

I have just begun to dip into the book, and I have yet to listen to the CD, so I will comment later.

Thanks again,

A special case of the circumstance that the USA is a long (and expensive) way from Europe via mail. When I order books, sheet music or CDs from Europe, it sometimes takes weeks to arrive, and the cost of shipping is often near that of the merchandise itself.
