Thanks ricardo for the input, im trawling through past minera and rondena threads, as im trying to tackle these more indepth. i'll post some of the results soon

Minera is basically an extension of the Taranta tonality, supposedly developed by Ramon Montoya, so that one could capo a little lower for the higher pitched singers, saving some fingerboard. Plus the open E string is very nice as it rings as the tonic for any of the cante de las minas, which are all based on the fandango form (key of E major, E-A-E-B-E-A-G# is the form, resolving back to G# phrygian). Modern tocares later recognized the connection key wise to Alegrias en Mi.

I embellished on your chord progression. Guys if there are any mistakes please excuse in advance. As for Minera por abajo, I have never heard of that. I guess you can play Minera in any key if you transpose. The key would be to make it sound like Minera, its esthetic.

It’s called Rondeña traditionally and uses a special tuning developed again by montoya. However the key of C# was also developed for granaina (malagueña, granaina and all cante Levantinos are related forms cante wise, therefore accompaniment can get mix up) by an obscure guy named Velez, later developed by Manolo Sanlucar and Niño Miguel, and finally PDL who used it as an alternate key for bulerias, paving the way for modern players to use for any form. Romerito once mentioned Chuscales developing Minera specifically in C#, but that would be a unique example....because Minera and Taranta don’t have any difference for accompaniment other than the key. I imagine chuscales needed that key for capo reasons for a certain singer or program.
Keep in mind the cante called “Minera” need not be accompanied in a special key as it often gets mixed in with Taranto, Taranta, cartagenera etc etc. So one key usually covers all forms for one singer, and that can be the choice of the guitarist.

been listening to montoyas, paco and tomates mineras over past few days and beginning to hear alot more of the trends and ideas in the palo
