Just booked flights to Jerez 7th-12th March. I'll be attending the Diego del Morao masterclass and hoping to catch some shows. Haven't been to Jerez for nearly 30 years so any tips would be much appreciated!

See you there :) Going to the concert at Franco's too at the end?
I'm SO out of my league (being playing for less than 3 years) that someone who was there 30 years ago adds to my intimidated feeling. Yeah, I absolutely should not be at a masterclass but what the heck.
We also arrive on th 7th but a bit too late for David Carpio, but might be of interest.

LOL Don't be. I probably shouldn't be at a masterclass either - been playing flamenco guitar for 4 years. I was in Jerez on a family holiday in the late 80s as a teenager! I'll send you my details via pm.

We’ll be in Jerez from March 7-11 before going to Sevilla. Coming from Lisbon by car or train, so not sure what time we’ll be in Jerez. There were only 4 tickets left to the guitar show featuring Pepe Habuchuela and Diego de Moron at Sala Paul on Saturday 3/10, I bought 2 tickets for me and my wife. I would like to see another show or two at Teatro Villamarta but not sure which, Everything in Spanish making it more difficult for me. Any recommendations for show with dancers? Thanks, Hai

The area has much better roads and infrastructure than 30 years ago! Highways connecting Jerez, Sanlucar, Puerto, Cadiz, Sevilla. The beautiful view of south Jerez comming from Sanlucar or Rota of the vineyards has been kinda killed off by the huge "La Luz" Shopping complex which is kinda soar on the eyes.
Hit up a "Mosto Bar" all the rage in the last few years! Cannot remember the name, my mom and sister love going to this mosto place on the road to Trebujena, lost somewhere in the middle of the vineyards, classic setup, Vineyard with its bodegas, a ganaderia, Tentadero, cheap mosto wine and food

It was pretty epic as I recall. We flew into Gibraltar and drove around Andalucia for 3 weeks - Seville, Ronda, Granada, Jerez, etc. We had Paco's "Solo quiero caminar" album playing in the car, and it was my first introduction to flamenco and Spanish culture.
25 years later I had a bit of a mid-life crisis and celebrated a birthday party with family and friends in a villa near Granada. I took a day trip to Granada (with my parents and sister) to visit a few guitar makers. Ended up buying a blanca from Rene Baarslag. My wife freaked out at the cost ("its the cost of a §$%ing ski holiday!") and I've spent the past 4 years learning to play.
I try and visit Andalusia once a year for an annual dose of flamenco. Maybe one day when our kids have grown up I may go and live there for an extended period....

I will probably be there for the last week of the festival. Am I the only one who isn't too impressed with this list of shows?(altough the big names are great of course):

Also, are the OFF tickets needed to be reserved beforehand?
Tickets to La Guarida are purchased there only, first come first serve. Either from a beautiful gitana bartender that my ex thought I spent too much time talking to or a gravel voiced gitano that looked to be about a 1,000 years old.

Who would be recommended from the OFF festival list?
Look at the line up in the link you posted, TONS. Nino Jero, Capullo de jerez, El Mono, Samuel Serrano, Antonio Reyes, Maria Juncal, Tia Juana la del pipa etc etc... Amazing names and I'm sure the ones you don't recognize are amazing too.

Thank you Johnc for the link. You can buy tickets for 10€ at that site. I’ll purchase my tickets tonight for the dance show on Friday 9/3. Forgot the name of the dancer.

I could not buy any tickets on this LaGuardia website. Tried 4 times and each time the transaction was denied, did not go through. My credit company said the problem was at the seller end. Anyone had luck buying tickets?

Rain, rain and rain in Jerez. Went to El Pasaje for local flamenco flavor. It’s a nice small place and packed like sardines with flamenco lovers. We met up with Diluk for tapas and show at La Guarida last night and had a good time. I still have 3 more shows to enjoy before leaving for Seville on Sunday. In anticipation for what to expect at the Habichuela show, I searched YouTube and found this video that I really like although I do not understand a word of what they sang. Pure Flamenco Bulerias:
