Yeah Len, i think there are many things that contribute to tone other than the strings. I have found over the years, as i've tried all the different trebles out there from carbon to nylgut to rectified, though they do seem a bit brighter at first, when i record something, it ends up sounding basically the same on the recordings. In fact, i couldnt tell you which trebles i'm using on which of my recordings just by listening. D'addarios are great for me not so much for the sound, but the J46 diameter and tension feels just right for my hands and nail length/shape. And when it feels right, i can get the tone i want.
