I just resawed a set of back and sides from a rare 90 year old board I took out of a tansu I'm repurposing into guitar wood. I'm thinking about making a classical with this wood. I'm showing it here to see anyone wants a unique negra made from this before I utilize it on a classical or seven string ? Black persimmon trees large enough to get a guitar back from are quite rare these days.

So, at last you have shocked everyone into silence by your choice of wood!
It would be very pretty if retained the silver/grey when finishing but perhaps difficult to marry with a golden top. A contrasting top finished in C***e red might do it though!
I looked around for this wood and found it laminated to leather to make handbags.

I have a few tricks up my sleeve for coloring. I'm not opposed to using beautiful wood, I just reject treating wood like a tarted up whore. If you find great unusual wood ok, if not thats ok too.

Actually, a white spruce top should look nice with the back and sides. I'm all for trying new things, as I used Paduk back in the 70's for a classical. It had sap wood that matched a spruce top perfectly.

I worked and thought for a few days about how to get the width for a back with the boards I had. I like this. Six panels is a lot of technical work, but the wood I had dictated this. The square is a sample of French polish on the same Black Kaki wood, it will be rich.

If you do try a veneer on a Tele body. Ship it to me for a neck, electronics, hardware and set-up. I might even buy it from you but we could always sell it in the UK.

Much of the "Japanese" black persimmon comes for Chico , California.
Exported in log form to Japan principally for golf club heads.
Then it's not a Japanese old growth black persimmon, this came from tansu made in the 1920's, it's the real thing. The kaki tree in CA was imported from Asia, anyway. But to find this wood in Japan is a rare thing.

I know it's hard to decide on board widths with a multi-panel back. The wood did a great job. It looks perfect, especially with the center boards running over the heel.

The center pieces were not long enough for a tall heel cap. So I nixed it, it will be separate, but dark wood.
I showed this on my facebook page and some retired English guy in Spain who I did not even know picked a fight over whether or not a flamenco guitar could be made with any wood other than Palo Santo or Cypress. I tried to humor him, but he kept insulting me and saying dumb cliche stuff like "Real pros in Spain smell the guitar and if it does not smell of Cypress they reject it." "Only cypress makes a flamenca."
So I looked at his profile page and sure enough, retired engineer who took up guitar making, and retired to Spain, I knew it. So instead of suffering his foolish amateur opinions I just straight up blocked him.
Theres really nothing worse in guitar making than an engineer who's made two guitars who feels entitled to 'mansplain' the art to others. So rather put up with it and wait for him to make ten more guitars and watch his world of smugness crumble, I decided to cut out the cancerous tissue and not ever have to see his stupid face on facebook.
So if you see me on facebook and we don't really like one another its cool, but if you see my stuff and I see yours, you're not blocked and that it means you're no fool.

The guy was obviously showing his ignorance but you know how some people are, they talk about what their particular neighborhood talks about :-)
But I like Spanish Cypress for flamenco guitar, except it's getting too expensive. It cost more than a good EIRW set.
Like the way your back turned out.

why are so many american ppl bad in geography :/ iraq is in between iran, armenia, turkey, syria, jordan, saudi arabia and kuwait and we mainly speak arabic. persian is spoken only in iran.
u sure about that eyeball thing? it might hurt a little this eyeball stuff like e.g. "i'll let you sit in my eyeballs" actually expresses hospitality, at least in arabic. it means "i'm gonna take care of you as if you were my own eyes" ( as in something very precious and easy to damage). or did you mean something else?
