Jose Luis de la Paz: a Spanish guita...

Hello, friends, just in case you might be interested:

I've had the chance to interview a Spanish flamenco guitarist for my radio show (in Spanish, sorry). His name is JOSE LUIS DE LA PAZ.

He was a pupil of the great Mario Escudero, and played for dancers Matilde Coral and Belen Maya.

He decided to start a career as a guitar soloist, but here in Spain there are not many opportunities, so he moved out to Miami, where he started from scratch some years ago.

In this podcast you can listen to an extended interview and some of the songs of his records:

Thank you.
Have a nice day.
David.

Nice to see you've still got a steady stream of podcasts going David. I haven't listened in a while but will try whenever I get a chance.
Cheers,

Thanks!
In my opinion he's one of the best players now.

My lady has been playing miedo de morir everyday for like two years now, she never gets tired of it. He is quite a monster.
Andres Vadin out here studied with him and he's a monster too. Andres gets better and better every time I see him, not only technically but accompaniment too.

I wish my wife would get obsessed like that! She has sat through so many of my collection of flamenco masterpieces but no REAL interest... sigh. I mean, she says she likes it but she's never asked me to hit Repeat, NOT ONCE.

The price I pay for this though is a dance studio in the living room and very loud, not so perfect footwork to an also loud click track. We can't have it all my friend. haha
I suppose it's still better than when my roommate was a death metal drummer. Lol except I did get to play his drums......

My wife doesn't really like flamenco. Funny thing was, on our first date we went to a record store and both bought PdL albums. She played a little guitar then, but soon gave it up. Once she was playing romance, but her teacher had showed her an easier way to play it to accommodate her small hands. I explained to her that she wasn't playing it exactly right and we had a fight and broke up for a few months. I've taken her to many concerts from VA to Paco, etc, but the truth is I don't enjoy bringing her. I'd rather go alone or with an aficionado. I'm not sure how much this affects my relationship with flamenco in general, but it does make a difference. She speaks Spanish like a native speaker, having spent many years living in Central America, and has a nice singing voice. When I suggested years ago she learn some cante, she said "I'm not nearly tortured enough to sing that stuff-you are but not me." Of course my Spanish is almost non existent and so is my singing ability so it's not gonna happen. Still, I have a guitar in the living room and play it most days, and only occasionally does she ask me to take it downstairs. She also put up with me playing for dance for several years without complaint and was happy to see me doing what I loved to do. Celebrated our 30th last week.

I guess you are right and I could be worse off, it's better than having a death metal drummer as a wife lol.

Oh I am hanging in there, Dudnote! It just "hurts" when people I love don't feel what I feel. Music brings me so many indescribable feelings... It has helped me through very bad times so it sucks to not talk to people that feel/understand it as hard as I do. I guess that's one of the reasons why I keep coming back to this place.

Some people just don't feel the same way about things as perhaps you and I do. I have that also where I play some super emotional stuff and I expect the other person to melt, but their reaction is usually "meh", and I feel like body-slamming them. Perhaps adopt such an approach with the misses. It might lead to other interesting places.
