French Polish History Book--of sorts

For those interested in a somewhat comprehensive text about the application and brewing of mixtures of stains, finishes and french polish, and for those interested in how it was done in 1910, go to Kindle and find the book, French Polishing and Enamelling by Richard Bitmead. The book is free. The book is geared for those in the furniture business and gives the reader an interesting perspective of how one made their "brews" some of which were potentially toxic.

Ethan, as a chemist I am sure you will have an interesting perspective of the old time words for chemicals as well as some of the toxic chemicals and mixtures.

What I noticed was that higher wax content was preferred and I have found wax in shellac to cause a big problem with clear golpeadores sticking properly.

ethan, yeah i think wax in shellac is a good thing for furniture but not guitars. have you read the part about smearing grease on the hands and face to prevent absorption of toxic material?
