Does anyone have any good recommendations for finding juergas in Spain - I imagine around Seville or Granada, unless anyone has other good suggestions? I want to go to Spain for a weekend now and then, and find some good sessions to play guitar at.
The local peñas are always a nice place for juergas and to meet people. Some peñas you have to be a member but not all of them. To participate in juergas it´s always better to go with someone who known there because it makes things a lot easier. If you actually want to play guitar or just doing palmas your expected to at least know your cante and compas! If not just sit in to listen and enjoy
You can do a goolge search for peñas flamencas in different cities.
Is that true that in juergas palos are usually performed in a pre-defined order? Solea between midnight and 1am. Siguiriya between 1am and 3am. The highlight is Tona at the break of dawn. Looks like juerga starts with cantes festeros. So there's a transition from light, deep, deeper to the deepest. Can anyone confirm this?

Yes this is true. If you break the order the duende will never come out and a baby seal gets clubbed and a kitten dies.

I also heard these local times have to be kept no matter where you are in the world. So on the US east coast, being 6 hrs behind Spain, the solea happens 6-7pm and Siguiriyas 7-9pm. It gets weird on the West coast where solea is 3-4pm and siguiriyas 4-6pm. Japan is the worst - as they are 8 hours ahead of Spain time, they have to do the juergas in the early morning 8-11am! Ricardo can you confirm this?

at last someone asked the question i have been aching to ask since i joined the foro, but never quite had the cojones to ask.... but now that pandoras box of juerga has been broached, yet more questions have flown out from the infernal depths...
do they have a guy in a special uniform with a clip-board and whistle to make sure they switch palo at the appointed hour?
do they order in the baby seal especially in advance in case someone breaches juerga timetable protocol?
or do they just hope that everyone is punctual and orderly and only send out for a baby seal if someone transgresses?

At an after hours juerga at Zambra in New York City in 1962, Sabicas was accompanying. A Spaniard who was passing through town was singing. He started a palo out of the correct sequence.
The duende leapt out from under Sabicas's chair and bit the singer in the butt.
Wait a minute, are you all saying Duende is a baby seal?
If so I'm thinking a few of you are tuned up way too far past 440htz.
HR pours himself another evile glass of somthing red out of a box, dives under his work bench, and pulls over asbestos sheet...

I prefer my flamenco guitar spicy, doesn't have to be fast, should have some meat on the bones, can be raw or well done, as long as it doesn't sound like it's turning green on an elevator floor.
Ok. Morante will confirm this. Looks like no one here has been in real juerga in Spain.
your question seemed so strange that absurdist humour was the only way to respond. Where did you get that bizarre information? The idea that juergas follow a set timetable with hourly punctuality is laughable

I'm wondering if he is not attempting to play a joke on us. I don't think so, but what other explanation can there be for such nonsense?

Darn, satan's mitt is displeased.
BTW you are getting predictable in your reactions. When you don't get validation of whatever dubious claim you posit without sourcing, you get a little mean and needle people with a 'no true Scotsman' fallacy framed as a dig - the current example of which I quote above. You've done exactly the same thing at least once before in exactly the same type of circumstances (I forget what the subject was though). Heh.

Forget about the time indication. Then the rest makes sense to me.
