New Guitar Day! <Now with sound!>

As promised, some pics of my new (to me) Castillo.

Great guitar - light, loud, snappy....and it smells good too.

Not the best light or photos, but I'm too impatient to wait for another day to share my excitement with you all...

I'm overjoyed with this one - really exceeds my expectations.

Thanks to the forum folk for making this happen for me!

I am really glad you like it Mitch. It was hard for me to sell, but the money is coming in handy for sure. It is funny the guy who had promised to buy, but said he couldn't called last night to say he can buy it. I had to tell him too late. If ever you decide to sell please let me know in case I am in a position to own her again.

Thanks for the nice comments. It seems to be a really great guitar.

Special thanks to Michael for letting me buy it! I couldn't have asked for a better buyer experience.

I believe he said the two trebles are LaBella 820, and the third the D'Addario composite G.

I'm really impressed with the guitar - it seems you sometimes can get a great guitar without breaking the bank.

Now I just need to learn how to play the thing - I'll try to make myself worthy of the instrument, but it might take a day or two. :)

Congratulations on the guitar. Castillo's instruments seem to be a great value in today's market. I know this is a difficult question, but how would you rate it with the Ramirez you had?

Good luck with your lessons.

It does seem to be quite a good value. I'd say that this is an excellent guitar.

Comparing to the Ramirez will be tough as that was a few years go. Aesthetically the Ramirez seemed to be more refined overall. When I bought the Ramirez, I got to hear about five of them side by side at GSI - I bought the one that seemed the driest or raspiest, as I think that's the sound I identify with flamenco. It had a sort of old world bite to it. The Castillo seems to sound a little smoother than I remember the Ramirez, but still muy flamenco.

Bear in mind that I am a beginner hack, so my judgment of sound is severely affected by how I play it. I will have a better opinion of it once I hear my teacher play it. I'll try to see if he minds me making a little recording during our lesson.

Playability is excellent. The neck profile is great to me. I'd have never guessed it was a 660mm from playing it. I'd say the thickness of the neck is on the smaller side of medium, with a flat back center - it's easy on the hands.

Overall, I'd say this a fantastic guitar for the money, and most likely a fantastic guitar even without considering the price. It is clearly a very good instrument.

If I can get any decent audio recorded I will share it.

I grabbed a minute or so of my lesson recording so you can get an idea of what the Castillo sounds like. I haven't done any processing to this file - it's just a quick sample from my little Tascam recorder. It seems to give a reasonable approximation of the tone though.

Oh yeah...

You're a bit of a dark horse Mitch. I had the impression you were completely new to flamenco and here we are three weeks later and you're already banging out decent tunes on a Castillo.

RE: New Guitar Day! <Now with sou... (in reply to Mitch

Sorry if it was unclear. That is my instructor playing, not me. I handed him the Castillo at the beginning of the lesson while I unpacked. He was still talking and noodling around when I got the little Tascam rolling. I was surprised when I got home that it did such a decent job of capturing the sound of the guitar. It was just sitting on the floor pointed in his general direction.

Trust me, you don't want to hear me trying to play anything. :) Maybe someday I'll make enough progress to enter one of our beginner events, but that will be quite awhile.

Thanks for all the nice comments. It's a great guitar that I feel lucky to have.

Oh sorry, I just saw it's a revived post.
Still, do you remember your g-string?
