I was hoping he'd drop "that" guitar on the floor as well, to showcase its acoustic characteristics... but regrettably he didn't

According to R.Diaz this is a "male" Andalusian guitar.

Tomatito describes this as a "macho" guitar, maybe they mean the same thing?

I am more into the travestite kind of guitar, looks like a perfect woman, but freaking you out when she opens het mouth.....

Does it require a special saddle if the top is tuned to say for example F# ?
Are there different ones for different top tunings?

Aaron,

Shochu- in glass with 7 parts hot water, 3 parts Shochu. Make sure the Shochu is from Kyushu.

Is that the "female" ratio of water to shochu?

Hey, I just looked at a video by Professor Diaz where he showed that if you use a 12-hole bridge you get a lot sharper break angle of the string across the saddle than you do with a 6-hole bridge with the string intentionally tied on wrong.

The guy is a scientific genius.

Well, another thing,
All this female versus macho guitar, I dont think its something that Rubén has made up. I´ve heard various guitarists here talking about female/macho guitars and I dont think its because they´ve been under the influence of Dr Diaz.

I´m not going to explain what it means, because honestly I dont really know what they want to say with this crap and I dont really care. I´ve known a lot of females that were more macho than their male parts. Some of them were even scary. There are few things more scary than a really macho female

If this player is playing a Diaz model then what I hear is that the sound is slightly pinched off, like holding your nose between your two fingers, but this doesn't mean that it is not a credible guitar.

Personally, I don't care for this motif, but rather a basic traditional motif that attracts many players; not just something different in line with the way a guitar looks but staying with tradition in the market place, like if it isn't broken, then don't try and fix it.

Now the question is: Would I buy this guitar.........No. The voice is not open enough nor does it sing with inter dimensional quality that I'm used to. And the motif is not something that I would be comfortable with...

And I hope that Mr. Diaz will take this as constructive criticism, not aimed at insulting him.

I dont think this female/macho thing has to do with blanca/negra
Its more like the beast inside that comes out.

It's supposed to refer to the body depth and resultant sound I think. Like wide sides and deep basses is macho...skinny guitars with more mids could be female, but I have only ever heard the term "macho" or not to describe a guitar. Diaz is just confused about everything anyway so no biggie to laugh at it.

Well, thats not what i have understood, but I´m far from being a specialist in Macho/hembra guitars and its just typical flamenco mumbo jumbo, where I think most havent really understood what it is.

This macha/ hembra thing usually refers to body depth. Anyway...what do I know. I let the master speak:

I don't care what size the guitar is, you can have a particular tuning that is characteristic of male or female, with trebles like Joan Sutherland and bass' like Pavarotti. The trick is to know how to tune them to get certain voicing.

I listened to Diaz's explanation of top tuning and he is only scratching the surface of the way tops are tuned, then voiced to add certain propio sello.

Very few guitar makers, whom I know, tune their guitars to just one key. Usually they will tune their tops between keys, like G-F#

Except his description of Paco's picado (one of his myriad Youtube vids) which is right on the money (although I suspect you will disagree!).

He makes it up just like the guys behind conspiracies, esoteric quackery, scientology...it's like all these things combined. The videos have a soothing effect that makes me fall asleep faster, though.

Diaz is trying to live up to the PT Barnum first rule of applied economics- There's one born every minute.

Most probably he understands the term, "Call me anything you want, just call me."

Everyone in this system of thought has good intentions but needless to say that there are myriad ways in which to sell guitars.

I like to read and hear about other advertisements, as they will often teach me something that I haven't thought about.

There is a progressive system by all sellers of guitars that puts us into an arena of building business; creating traffic for the other guy who has guitars for sale.

I wouldn't mind being in an entire block of guitar business' to display my instruments. It creates traffic.

So, the bottom line is to have a selling mentality and definitive explanation about certain facets of a guitar's operation, to be able to compete with other sellers of Guitars.

He probably confused Paco de Lucia with Ravi Shankar :-).

Competition is one thing, downplaying other's work, misrepresenting your own brand…and building your product up using rather dubious techniques that border on snake oil is what I've seen and that is not above board. Of course people aren't so stupid, generally speaking so it makes for amusing reading. My favorite example, besides speeding up the tape when he played Entre Dos Aguas (I think that was the piece) is a clip of Paco de Lucia on the beach, holding one of his guitars, that cut into Paco in concert…supposably using the same guitar. Which he wasn't. At all.

That was cute.

Mr. Diaz has too much time on his hands I think. What a load of BS.

When I sometimes question my own sanity, it's good to look at vids like these. I could have been worse off by a mile.

I understand but the point is that we have the same freedom to defend our product, not that he has the bully pulpit and given license to lord it over others who also have the ability to respond back. Otherwise it comes off as childish complaining, and this is not what we are about. BTW, I've been hearing very good things about your guitars.

I just learned something else about Rubin Diaz. I know someone who won the contest Diaz was running a few years ago--Transcribe something Diaz played and play it and the best would win one of those funny guitars he has something to do with. My friend won! And then Diaz told him he could get the guitar for only $1800--not free as advertised.

Oh yeah the video is still there on you tube stating you get a free guitar like the one he is playing ...I think you have to put a vid in as well..
think his guitar sounds out of tune ,especially when he plays octaves ....would you have to write that detuning into the transcription i wonder ...

I really don't understand why everyone is picking on Mr./Dr. Diaz. He says the same stuff over and over, stubles around his words, has the worst sounding audio on Youtube, is said to be a guitar nut job and is best friends with the late Paco.

His videos helped me understand how many Euros I need to adjust my action, how to throw a saddle on the floor and evaluate it's efficacy by the sound it makes, how to tie my bridge with 64 wraps so my strings will never come off, and blows Paco every chance he gets.

Why would anyone want to rag on such a pleasurable fellow?
Are you folks shallow or something?
