Traite de Guitare Flamenca - Herrerr...

Does anyone have the book Traite de Guitare Flamenca by Oscar herrero & Claude Worms, especially Vol 2 onwards?

I purchased Vol.1 but the accompanying CD just has 5 concert pieces on it.
Which makes most of the tabbed exercises useless as I can't hear an audio so hard to know if I am doing them right.

For his other volumes do the cd's have audio for all the exercises and tabbed examples or is it again only audio for a few concert pieces?

the audio for those books is patchy. most of the stuff is not on the cd's

it would be better to get Oscar Herrero's DVD's, you can then not only hear but see everything played, mostly you can just get it off the video and don't need the books (but they come with books in case you get really stuck).

I have volumes 1 - 4 and they get better when it comes to the music.

You can have them if you want, but you have to pick them up, I´m not going to ship etc.
I dont like them and I think its a poor and cerebral way of studying flamenco.
I also have some of the Herrero videos and i dont like them either. He´s soooo boring. I had lunch with him once... He´s like in the videos...

IMHO, you´ll be better of using some youtube videos, convert some into mp3 and slow down and learn by ear. All this reading music is not something that I think works very well for music like flamenco and I´m a pretty good music reader. I just find it to be to square for flamenco.

I on the other hand find them very useful. I agree about His performances are not too passionate, but like the material he'd put together. especially 4 and 5 where He cover palos

I have vol. 2 and it has around 17 tracks. blue You can Pm me if interested...

I have the volumes of the palos. I think they have some good falsetas and pieces to study but the explanations are pretty much horrible and best to ignore completely. The flow of the book is also completely odd as it seems to just jump around. I think they're best for chops building and personal studies for people who already know the basics of the palos, not beginners.

i thought you liked Herrero's DVD's - didn't you post a video of yourself playing some of his falsetas?

he's not draining whisky bottles, rolling joints or snorting coke of the back of the guitar if that's what you mean....

but as far as I can tell he plays the material clearly and cleanly in slow and fast speeds for beginner to intermediate learners and does a good job of it.

agreed, the books are waaaaaay too analytical.
The DVD's are a better compromise IMO.
But what do you think of the idea of the DVD's showing llamadas, remates, falsetas, compás etc. and encouraging the student to put it together, as opposed to most teaching materials showing solos?

what videos would you recommend for beginner/intermediate students outside of Spain without a teacher?
The student on YouTube has everything to choose from, from Paco de Lucía concerts to really bad amateur instructional video's....

agreed. When you go to play with a singer or dancer, they aren't going to hand you a score....
With the DVD's most of the stuff is clear enough to be learned without needing to use the tabs provided....
