elbow position

I've been experimenting with my left arm elbow position. I actually don't know where it's suppose to be when I'm playing.

Usually it's relaxed, just taken straight down by gravity. But I've noticed in this position it forces my wrist to take more of an angle approaching the fretboard, which can be uncomfortable.

If I keep my elbow "inline" with my wrist, it seems better for my wrist, but shoulder is no longer relaxed as it has to support more, which can be uncomfortable.

Is there a "correct" position?

Relaxed when not doing barres, and more inline when doing barres. That's one take on matters at least...

The bottom line answer will always be: change things up to maintain flexibility, & try not to stick with one position for long periods of time.

that makes sense, the more strained hand positions should have a nicer flow through the wrist

I've also noticed that if my thumb is closer to the middle finger position, it can force my wrist to bend as well. If I put it back a bit more behind my index finger, my wrist can relax as there is less distance.

Just trying to work on efficiency, in a physiological sense.

Some say your m , or 2nd finger of your left hand should point toward your elbow .
