The most awful thing I saw this month was a homeless guy looking in a public trash for paper, find some, then pull his pants down and wipe his arse on a busy street corner! Looking back I'm kinda chuckling but at the time I was horrified........

come on guys, i just thought you'd think that it was funny. don't wanted to offend someone. sorry i didn't meant it that serious. just didn't thought about what i'm sharing. I understand your points.

I agree with jof here. I think we can all understand what he was referring to when he said "the most awful thing" - the pseudo-quasi flamenco pretenders playing sort of rumba with a pick.
We have laughed about this many a times in the past.
We don't need to be so serious! :)
And Todd, hey man are you ok? You sound bad mood these days. I wanna see some more of your videos.

yes, but we don't need to disrespect others as well. The guys were fine, and the audience just liked them and looked like enjoying their time, so nothing was awful really.

I like this post.
I didn't see the video before the OP removed the link, but as an admitted "pretender" (at least in the eyes of many here no doubt), I just don't get the hate. Very few of these people actually refer to their schtick as traditional flamenco (I sure as hell don't!). So WHAT is the freaking big deal with people enjoying playing and listening to Spanish/Latin-flavored music that's not flamenco puro??? Cripes... this purist elitism goes to far sometimes and only serves to make the critic look bitter, jealous, and angry. Go out and frigging PLAY and let your fingers do the talking. Or (as a poster above mentioned), go witness something in this world TRULY "awful". Hint: it's NOT a room full of people enjoying music together!

Then again, there are some things that just scientifically and universally SUCK.

What's REALLY "awful" is all of the self-styled "guardians of the flame" in every little internet nook and cranny who seem to spend so much time nitpicking every subject to death... and how much REAL practice/play time they're missing while they're policing the world, keeping things spit-shined to a mirror polish. When I'm not stuck at my day job, I'm nowhere NEAR the virtual world -- preferring instead actually laying my fingers on wood and nylon and DOING something.

really? you seem to be spending some time at least in the "virtual world" here being a "self-styled guardian" of whatever was in the video that neither of us have seen!

that **** was definitely awful and the poster doesnt owe any apologies. the real question is why anyone would be on a flamenco aficionado forum if their attitude is 'whatever makes the audience clap is fine, dont judge, its all valuable, live and let live' or whatever ****

What kind of a stupid comment is that?
This is indeed a 'flamenco aficionado' forum. Flamenco - as in a form of music which is played in front of an audience for them to enjoy and hopefully clap to.
For the record - even 'back then' when 'everyone was having a laugh' about fakemenco I thought it was stupid and only showed the insecurities of the participants. Worse even it discourages people from sharing their music in fear that some teenage asshat will make fun of it.
If you were ever serious about playing you know how nerve-racking it is to go public. Some people never get over it. I think that this place should be about encouragement and not ridicule.
But I guess is you're a sucky beginner that's never planning on getting good you can take comfort in the fact that other people suck as well. To each his own, brandocostumes.
jof - we've already lost some valuable members (and all their knowledge went with them) due to this kind of insensitivity. Let's try not to alienate more of them.

Chester,
I have to yet come across a post of yours that I wouldn´t agree with. Brother in mind.
With currently VPN working on my side I had a look at the video last night.
It was a bit simple maybe and indeed faking a real thing. But it was grooving, everyone was having fun, and any gig that may draw elderly northern folks from silly schlager towards iberian style guitar music should be productive. Aside of the fact that cheering up folks in their last years ain´t exactly the worst to do. -
I myself, if at all, am a closet player, only capable of self-knitten pseudo stuff, but can play better than some self-confident fellas who present their clips here as if those were to pass for traditional flamenco.
Still, I appreciate their efforts and joy.
Having said all that, the thread opener has made clear by now where he is coming from, and seems to have just slipped like everyone will from time to time.
BTW; Al di Meola has a t least one killer track. I am trying to find it back since a certain cassette got lost decades ago.

We have been down this road many times before. A subject guaranteed to stir up some extreme views that serve little purpose other than to create an unwelcome atmosphere. This thread is locked.
