Nylon with 1 3/4" nut string sp...
I am putting together a nylon strung guitar with a 1 3/4" 44.45 mm neck width at the nut. Just need some input on what I should shoot for in string spacing. I want to get as much width as possible. The frets are fairly square on the ends, so that's not a big factor. I will gladly shift everything toward the bass side, so I am mainly concerned with the 1st string distance from the edge. This guitar will probably be used for general jazz & cow-punk playing & obviously not serious flamenco. Any information is appreciated.
Thanks, kev

Thanks, I can probably get away with 2 mm on both sides. Guess I an make a new nut if it doesn't work for me. I should probably explain what cowpunk means to me. There are several singer songwriters that I like & their music is not folk, country, pop or anything else I can think of, so I borrowed a relatively dead genre to label their music. There must be a name for the music that Ray Wylie Hubbard, John Prine & such play, but I don't know it. Thanks for the info.

I have never made a neck that narrow, but when I make a neck with a nut width between 50 and 54 mm, I always leave 5 mm from the center of the first string to the edge of the fingerboard, and 4 mm for the 6th string. So a 52-mm nut would have 43-mm string spacing. 5 mm seems to be a good amount to allow pulloffs without pulling the string over the edge.
