10K??? they must be kidding. No top=no maker credit. Better if they ONLY had the orginal top intact and build the rest around that. I would say it's only worth couple hundred bucks for useable parts.

I assume it has been for sale for a while - in the auction description, it says its a no-reserve auction with an opening bid of 99 cents, but the current auction is Buy It Now or best offer.
Would have been interesting to see the condition before someone cut the top up.

Those are funny jokes guys, I see you are catching on to humor now.
I wrote them and asked if I could go see it in person.
Many things check out, the linings are the right kind of wood, the heel, the nails in the top under the fingerboard, the scribe lines coming off the rosette under the fingerboard. Old Spanish construction for sure. Looks a lot like a Santos.
But why did they not save the top and why did they carve it back like that? It looks like geometrically carved jamon. It reminds me of an anatomy class cadaver.

It's an old Santos trick. If he didn't like the client he put explosive disguised as a business card inside. First golpe - bang! It has been discussed many times in the foro. If you find a card like the one shown - run!

You're cracking me up guys! I see it has become a challenge to give the most scientific explanation to what on earth has happened to this alleged Santos. It think RobJe did some great scientific research there!
This case reminds me of the Cinderella story: gilr goes to party, looses shoe. Prince finds shoe and brings it back to the rightful owner.
Only this time the princes stepped into a bear trap and lost two legs and an arm.

The sad Sanatos I posted sold on ebay about 6 years ago. I seem to remember that the vendor had it authenticated by Richard Brune after potential buyers questioned whether it was a fake. The purchaser reported on another forum that he was having it restored for sale so that he could pay his son's college fees. It wasn't a cheap purchase - but it had retained all its parts.

1950s story. Guy has his car towed to the mechanic's shop. Mechanic tells him it'a a basket case. Guy says fix it anyhow. Mechanic calls the guy the next day and says his car is ready.
Guy comes to the shop. Car looks good as new. Mechanic tells him the bill is $3,298.55.
"What??!!" You couldn't possibly put in that much work in less than a day!"
"Well, no... your car was in such bad shape we had to jack it up and drive a new one in under it..."

I asked around and got some help with understanding things I was looking at on this instrument and it seems like the whole thing is highly questionable. I've decided to forego bothering to look at it in person. If that tells you anything.

Torres generally used kerfed linings or, occasionally, crimped solid linings on small, inexpensive instruments. Santos Hernandez used both solid and kerfed lings in addition to tentellones (for the top), often mixing them, i.e. solid back linings with tentellones around the top, solid back linings with kerfed top linings, kerfed back linings with tentellones for the top, etc.
The last genuine Santos I saw was a few months ago. It was an example from the 1920s (I don't recall the exact date) that was in the process of being restored by Ross Gutmeier. It had kerfed linings top and back.
