Torres generally used kerfed linings or, occasionally, crimped solid linings on small, inexpensive instruments. Santos Hernandez used both solid and kerfed lings in addition to tentellones (for the top), often mixing them, i.e. solid back linings with tentellones around the top, solid back linings with kerfed top linings, kerfed back linings with tentellones for the top, etc. The last genuine Santos I saw was a few months ago. It was an example from the 1920s (I don't recall the exact date) that was in the process of being restored by Ross Gutmeier. It had kerfed linings top and back.
