RE: Vicente's new album "Tierra... (in reply to rombsix)
Whether you find it interesting or not is one thing, but calling it "easy listening" in some attempt to condescendingly reduce it to "simple music" that you're somehow "above" of is embarrassingly inappropriate.

Nobody said that this is a "simple music" but it's not flamenco for sure.
I really like "Rio de la Seda" and "Roma" but i think you miss a thing.
And this is not only my opinion. If you hear something else it's ok.

Well you just put it in a genre most commonly associated with cheesy and simplified background music. So...yeah, you just said that.
Basically, what I'm trying to say here is that you can make your point without being condescending. I don't even like the album that much myself. But too much elitism on display here sometimes.

I don't like easy listening but most easy listening is played by very accomplished studio musicians, it's completely respectable music, with that in mind this album to me is leaning toward the easy listening side, maybe just general "world music". It's not puro, no disrespect to his talents that's just what he decided to do and it ain't my bag so I don't have to buy it. Maybe his next album I'll love.........

I repeat...
Nobody says that Vicente's music isn't great.
But i have to agree with Lenador that this is world music.
I dont know what is this that you dont understand. Flamenco music has opened his borders. Many guitarists try different things, mix many styles of music. Many say that for example Chicuelo has a lot of jazz things in his music etc. That doesnt mean that his stuff is not flamenco.
In this case Vicente tries a different stuff and for me is not flamenco - puro or something else - maybe its modern, but not for me.
If you disagree with my opinion, that ok. But i'm not the only one here that believes that.

Thanks for this mr Doctor.. I like this album, not as a pure flamenco album but as an music album with alot of flamenco feel to it.. Its like Michel Camilo and Tomatito's Spain and Spain Again.. Music played with flamenco technique and flamenco flavour. Also Anton Jimenez has an album out with music that isn't pure flamenco I think it's called 9Reido or something similiar.
But not being pure flamenco doesn't take away from the music being good or bad. I don't really like the track Roma.. but I like this album. Roma seems to be building and building and instead of building to something magnificent, it just stops..

Nuuuuu, its very appropriate if its appropriate (if that makes sense). I didnt listen to it, but that one track was definitely world music type of thing. There is nothing terribly wrong with it, neither it is with simple music. Anything else is foolish to think. What label would be appropriate then? Chillout Smooth Jazz Lounge???

Oh i hate that. I hate that so so much... Worst thing i have ever heard in my life. Sorry but being reminded of that album totally ruined my mood for today.

I listened to some numbers... I find it to be stylish confusing. Its all over the place. But Vicente is Vicente and he he still plays very well and his tone is really good. Maybe even better than ever. (And no, I dont talk about his guitar, but the tone that he, Vicente, produces) But the music is not for me, so I just leave it.

Hey V, how you doin?
?Bien bien, y tu Rogelio?
Yeah, I’m good. So your new album, WTF?
?hmm? ?que?
Your last album, you movin away from flamenco?
!Ahhh I just want to do musica man.! I’ve been playing for mucho tiempo you know and I just feel like doing what calls me.... music... different things.
Yeah, I understand, but why did you decide to put your brand new album out on the web like that. You know I bet you would have sold a lot more if people would not have first heard it.
!?Por que!?
Well, it’s nice music but I think a lot of your fans may not like it that much... well, they’ll like it but... hmmm, it’s a bit.... no.... it’s quite different then your other stuff, like moving away from flamenco. There's a whole bunch of people that would have bought it to hear it, but now many won't. Don’t you think?
Ahhhh si, si..... well, like I said, I just want to do my thing hombre, don’t want to be caged in by flamenco rules. I need to be free. ?Me entiendes?
Yeah but you might loose so many flamenco fans for this album.
!Ahhh, no hay problema! !For every flamenco fan I lose I will gain 6, even 10 other non-flamenco fans! That's why it's out there, to have the other people listen to it, otherwise they would just assume it's flamenco. !Plus it’s going to help my concerts mucho! People fall asleep listening to guitar all the time, not because it’s boring, I know it’s just very relaxing. Now they can fall asleep on my Titanic style music, maybe I will even invite Celine to sing when I go to the States.
Ok V, catch you later. Oh, and by the way, don’t fall off that bike when you are carrying your guit on your back like that.
pft... !no es me Reyes! It's a guitar I got from a traveling salesman, don't know where it's made, label does not say. Apparently these are better then Condes, he gave it to me for free. He said it would be great if I filmed myself playing with it and post it on Youtube. I finally took it to get rid of him. !But ayyy, it came in handy after all!
Ah, that's good to hear. See you later man.
Luego amigo. Ey, here is a copy of my album.
No, it's good man, I'm good, I'm good. Thanks anyways.
Well, how about the guitar, I don't use it, and I'm all done with my videos.
Kool! can I see it.
Here.
Oh man... don't want to get into that. I'll pass on that too. Maybe you can use it if you decide to move on to Nirvana style of music.

Hilarious!
For most of us here flamenco was a journey into a new interesting thing that we didn't grow up with. I still love metal to death but I was feeling locked in and getting bored. That's gotta be how it is for Flamenco's that grow up with flamenco and that's all they've played. They wanna try something new, and I feel 'em, but I don't have to buy it.

Maybe true.. maybe Vicente just wants to make music for this album and not just flamenco music. I like this album.
RE: Vicente's new album "Tierra... (in reply to rombsix)
I´ve always had the feeling that flamenco wasnt room enough for Vicente Amigo. he has always had a tendency to push limits and he´s never been the typical Andalucian flamenco artist. His playing and sound, the same. He´s always had a playing style and a sound that was special.
So now he´s done an album which I personally wouldnt call a flamenco album. But i think its great that the man explores the potential that he has. Isnt it what life is all about? And it doesnt mean he cant play flamenco anymore or that he´s lost from the flamenco scene.
I´ve listened to a few tracks more and I like it. Its a very pleasant album (I didnt say easy ) I still think the message is a bit confusing, but thats ok.
RE: Vicente's new album "Tierra... (in reply to rombsix)
I havent heard it all but the overall sound seems quite "earthy & warm". The traditional Peninsula Iberica's excessive reverb seems to be left out, thats nice. Also I didnt hear the usual "wiggly wiggly" slur-fest-overkill but as I said, I havent heard it all so I might have some surprises on this department
In general, it sounds like what Fado artists have been doing lately going towards a more polished international world music sound instead of the visceral old school sound.
