RE: Flamenco Metronome/Compas App fo... (in reply to jaggedsphere)
All I need is a pair of hands. If someone is willing to record some palmas and cajon stuff for me to play with it would be great.
I would also create this to be compatible in both Android and Iphone, and take any requests for it seriously.
I would also like to offer it for free.
If I could get some samples, we can start putting some sound samples together. I think this would be the hardest part. Making the metronome and interface would be no problem.
If anyones interested you can contact me - devitt.cs@gmail.com

I'm going to start development of this project tonight. If anyone has any suggestions they ever wish they had in a metronome, now's the time to say it.
When it's done I'll be distributing a number of free copies for those who are interested here. (changed my mind about making it a free app, I'll be putting some cool social features in it that will make it a very valuable tool to have)

Hi vigrond, Although I don't have an Android phone (yet!), I wouldn't mind helping you out.
I own a Oscar Herrero metronome and I can convert those rhythms into .wav files. The rhythms are fully programmable with both cajon and/or palmas sounds. So if you want my help, tell me what you need and I will send you the .wav files.

Hi Congusto, thanks for the offer but for legal reasons I need to produce or own these sounds myself. I have found a few sources, but more are always welcome.
By the way I have been making some good progress on this new app, and I'll be giving some exciting updates within a couple weeks.

Sorry for misunderstanding why you are asking. I really appreciate your project, after understanding, I have asuggestion.
about interface, it will be helpful to render red beats for accents and to have generality size of the screen and the rest for the clock if you are going to render a clock...or to be adjustable in size, so the user can control his own interface.

My favourite part is when I squeeze the tea bag with the spoon, but the hard part is where i am going to place it.

El Saare, thank for your suggestion. I will be implementing the clock and accent features. As far as adjustable in size, it will be at full screen. I don't think anyone would want it smaller than that, no? Is that what you meant?
RE: Flamenco Metronome/Compas App fo... (in reply to vigrond)
I think it's a great idea to signal the beats, but a person needs to know which beat that accent was on. Therefore I think it would be best to give the accented beat a red color.
I am not so sure if a on/off light would be beneficial as one has to learn by ear and not by looking at a light turning off and on. Is that logical to assume?
I am trying to stay away from fancystuff and focusing on philosophizing how to best visualize flamenco patterns.
RE: Flamenco Metronome/Compas App fo... (in reply to vigrond)
Go easy on the visualization, that is not the most important part. In the end you have to use your ear to use the App.
Make a good metronome with good sounding palmas, cajon, maybe bass etc and in various compas patterns. Maybe allow the user to string x of type a and y of type b etc to add some variety, without intruding too much in Dr. Compas territory.
Sound will be the most important thing. Flashy graphics won't carry the app. A compas clock is more than enough.

Hi vigrond,
I don't want to demotivate you, but I think these metronoms always sound stiff and mechanical...why not code an app similar to sony's acid loop program ? http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/acidpro
Just a simple looper that can work with mp3 files and let the user change the tempo of the loops....

Hi Thomas,
This is a necro'd topic... but I'm still interested in the subject. Just been busy with school and a new job.
I completely agree with you about sounding stiff and mechanical. It would be nice if there was something out there to provide your own mp3s and 'share' your loops. Though there may be some legal implications to that.
