Audio recording/editing software?
Hi folks,
Which audio recording/editing software do you recommend? I am after something cheap and cheerful which does the normal jobs such as recording, chopping the unwanted bits of WAV, MP3 files, etc; nothing too sophisticated as I neither have the knowledge nor time to play around with the recordings.
I downloaded Audaicity which is free, therefore ticks the box but had no joy with it! I just wanted to delete 40 minutes off the beginning of something that I had recorded but it didn't do it!

I recommend Transcribe at http://www.seventhstring.com/ it's cheap and simple. Plus you can slow down songs and keep the pitch to help you practice or transcribe things.
Can't record with it I don't believe though...........

By far, Reaper is all you could ever dream of.
The demo is unlimited and never stops working. You are encouraged to buy a license for 50 bucks, which is peanuts considering the depth of the software.

30 days limit. Just installed it. To the OP: try Audacity, its free and sufficent for simple tasks. I prefer better software though, with nicer GUI and more functions even if dont use them that often.

Thanks all for your recommendations.
Todd, I watched a demo of Reaper on YouTube. Although it seems to be a full on, all singing all dancing software, it appears that the guy had Audacity plugged in to Reaper and used it for editing! You are the man in the know, please tell me what's going on here?!

Its very common to bridge programs for various reasons. Thats really a taste issue. Some people have preferences as to the layout of the program, etc. They all do basically the same functions.
Some have more features than others, and some make it easier to perform certain functions. It depends on what you want to do. Midi programming, wave editing, automation, etc.. You have to shop around and find what is right for you. Plenty of stuff out there for 50 bucks or less.
Reaper is definately one of the most full featured programs, for any amount of money in my opinion. TK
