RE: singer destroying a guitar in bi... (in reply to kudo)
I´ve said it before. The Flamencos are bored and dont know what to do in order to catch attention. Its not enough to sing/dance/play well anymore. Very few persons are interested in that. You have to do something else to sell the show. Is flamenco having an artistical crisis. Oh yes, definately.

must be one of those guys who say "flamenco is cante. guitar is not flamenco". i kinda liked this artistic performance. but it would have been way better with the addition of an orchestra

WTF?? what if someone thinks its pretty cool to destroy someone's or YOUR car and says " its just a car, jeez.."
Kudo, that's not fair, there's nothing to indicate they grabbed someone else's guitar and destroyed it. If they bought it, they can do whatever they want with it and who cares... guitars aren't some sacred, inviolable objects, at least not to non-guitarists. (and judging by the use they put it to, and the general financial state of cantaores, especially ones who need to resort to stunts like that, you can rest assured it wasn't a very good guitar!)

hahahahaa... I find that kind of awesome for some reason. I wouldn't want someone to do that to one of my guitars but it would be interesting to see if all the braces would pop off when he starts jumping on the top. I don't think it was a very nice guitar and it seems like a fitting end to something that was not built with any respect in the first place.

Given the pure crap caliber of "flamenco" on the rest of the video, they might just as well have destroyed the guitar the way they destroyed any semblance of flamenco. In fact, they should have sawed the "cantaor" - if anyone really wants to call him that – in half too, and while they were at it, the "dancers" as well.
What does silly nonsense like this have to do with flamenco? Nothing whatsoever.

I dont care, but i can try to have a reasoned opinion on it. How bout this: It doesnt matter who bought the guitar, or whether it has been sold to anyone at all, because sawing a guitar is dumb.
edit: i had a 2nd look at the video and there is strong evidence that this is part of a gymnastics program. Look at 2:19, first he trains the arms then later the legs. It is important to train the whole body to prevent muscular dysbalance. Also the audience seems a bit dated, which undermines the gymnastics thesis. Your welcome guys, Im glad i could help you out with this misunderstanding.
edit2: ok first i was joking but now i think this REALLY is a gymnastics program. Look at 2:39 he switches again to train his upper body and limbs. Its a full body workout.

Either way, I am completely against this kind of thing. Even if it was the cheapest and crappiest guitar ever made, someone like Sabicas could pull this thing out and play beautiful wonders on it. And if it's people that think Flamenco is only about cante, then they don't understand the true beauty of Flamenco guitar.
Well said!
Also, as long as there are people who´d be happy to own and play yet the cheapest and crappiest guitar, idiotic destruction means disdain in every regard.
The destruction of guitars on stage to me just serves as example for brainless and unprinicpled being symptom of sheepishness. With countless dumbs who figure it cool how Pete Townshend smashed a guitar; still imitating the action of ignorance.

2:17-2:49 WTF????? SINGER SINGING POR SEGUIRIYA AND DESTROYING A GUITAR?? ANY EXPLANATION?
Stupid performance art, "performed" by people who probably don't know how to play rasqueado, arpeggio, picado, etc. Theatrics are always easier than skill and discipline.
RE: singer destroying a guitar in bi... (in reply to kudo)
these are manuel romero (the fat singer) and javi gomez. good friends of mine here in sevilla. you know for younger people la bienal has become more a platform to present new ideas and to be very theatrical. too much sometimes. this is a por martinetes but in stead of hitting on iron they were hitting on the guitar
