First off... lets make our deadline for submissions September 3rd (Monday) send it in as soon as you finish so that Simon or Tom dosent get rushed on the last day with all the editing and whatever needs to be done..
I just got a message from Simon who is not even sure of the possibility of showing a video at the funeral, as soon as we know details we will be able to say yes or no.....so please do what you were going to do but be flexible and be prepared we might not have the possibility to have every video or any in the montage that goes to the funeral, might just be audio.. its not about us...we have to keep it to a certain time limit...but we will include everything on our own version of the montage..
we dont know much at the moment, but cant afford to wait until we find out either, so we do the best we can with what we know until we know more..
Also when making the video, please keep in mind its a funeral so dress as you would if you were there.
here are some of Simon's suggestions, if you have anything to add or any questions post it on this thread
quote:
1. A piece to camera or just audio (over which we can lay photos of Ron), up to 30 secs. max. in any popular video format (720 would be the preferred resolution).
2. Introduce yourself with your name, and your country of residence.
3. A few words that you would like Ron to hear if he were with us. Fond memories, his encouragement, any special joke he cracked that made you laugh (keep it clean, please).
4. Wrap it up with a goodbye (for now).
5. Funerals often require CDs for music (usually only two tracks are played, on entrance and exit) a few days before, so we need to be quick.
I know we all wanna do something special for Ron but at the end of the day it all depends on the family wishes and needs..
so do what you were going to do but be flexible (to give you an example I was thinking of doing a short musical video, one short message video...that way whatever is required, audio, musical video, message video... i am covered)..
Keep checking this thread for updates
EDIT

To add to this......if you thinking about it...perhaps leave the Scottish accents out of it, I am not sure if Scottish people find that funny lol

RE: Our plan for the Video Montage f... (in reply to Florian)
Thanks Florian. Good stuff.
Folks, please participate, it will mean a lot to AC and Ron's family and friends.
May I suggest we formulate a simple script, as if you were being interviewed, to keep it consistent e.g.
"What is your name?" "Where do you live?" "How long did you know Ron?" "Do you have a favourite memory of him?" "What do you think you will take from knowing him, in the future?"
Try and keep it to no more than 1 minute.
Please bear in mind what Florian has said. We may not be able to show a video at the funeral so we are not looking for musical performances right now , but by all means, if you are contemplating something, we will use it here as a lasting memorial and make a copy for AC. In the meantime, a piece to camera from which we can extract the audio if necessary, would be ideal.
Into a web cam of computer camera is fine but try and make the audio as clear as possible. It might be nice to carry your guitar on your knee as a reminder of what we are about but try not to fiddle with it, or look down at it too much.
1. You can upload the video or audio to YouTube (audio only is fine as we will superimpose photos of Ron if this goes to video). YouTube will ask you convert the audio to a video format in Movie Maker, iMovie or some other editor. It's simple enough. Mark it as "Unlisted" and send me the URL.
2. You can send it to me at the address above - assuming it is not too big for our mail systems.
3. You can upload it here in the audio and video upload section and let us know on this thread. Limit is 5Mb.
I'll do mine and post it here as an example of what we are thinking. Any questions?
RE: Our plan for the Video Montage f... (in reply to Escribano)
I have a suggestion Simon
if we are going to be pressed for time which we probably most certainly are going to be...instead of speaking out the name and country at the start (that might get a bit repetitive with people from the same country) ...why not just launch straight into the message and have our name and country in text on the video

RE: Our plan for the Video Montage f... (in reply to Florian)
Won't work if we end up going with the audio. "I am Simon from Bath in England" takes 4 secs. I also want to emphasise the international nature of Ron's legacy. He travelled a lot and got a kick out of that aspect of the forum.

Easy for you ...you probably sound like where you are from...I am gonna say I am Florian from Australia...they gonna unanimously scream out " LIER!"
but you make a good point about what happens if its only audio...might need to lie about where i am...last thing i wanna do is confuse Scottish peoples familiarity with accents..

.... oddly i developed a bit of an English intonation, in fact I was born and raised in Italy, I work in New York and live in San Francisco.... but now, I just wish I were there, in Scotland, to pay my respect to a dear friend I never met in person and yet meant so much to me.

Yes, but we don't know anything about the funeral arrangements until AC gets back to us.
We are moving on 3 fronts 1. video/audio eulogy-style contribution, if AC and the family are ok with that. This thread. 2. Playlist of Ron's favourite tunes. The other thread. 3. Wreath. To be decided.
RE: Important: Plan for the Video Mo... (in reply to Florian)
I'm going to do mine with Welsh accent, like Sean Connery. Because Ron would have liked that, I think. I'm Shhhteeephen Faak, from California. I've played shubmarine captains, double O sheven and sheveral other hard men. I've never met a man more shimilar to my shelf than Ron Mitshchell... ect.
RE: Important: Plan for the Video Mo... (in reply to Florian)
As i start to plan the details of what i might do..
Here is a run down of the idea i had if we can have video if not just extracting the audio from it will work fine too....where i say "sound" and "on screen" just tried to give you an idea so u can imagine it...it means what you will be hearing and what you be seeing at the same time...
1. Introduction.... .......Sound (my voice) who i am and where I am from how i have come to know Ron.. (with some very very low volume soft appropriate guitar music along with the words...)... On screen a couple of different short scenes of me playing guitar from past performances or tv dont know yet..(no sound from videos) just shows what i do and why i have come to be connected to Ron
2. My Message..........On screen ... fades to photo or photos of Ron ...Sound my story about Ron or my thank you to him ( again same soft low volume guitar music in the background )...
3. The End.... ... Sound and screen ...fades to the video i film this weekend in my living room (dressed appropriately)...my goodbye to Ron or what i would have liked to say to him...(perhaps maintain the low volume soft guitar music in the background for continuity so that the sound is not so abruptly different from the other scenes)..
screen fades out to black so it helps distinguish between different members and saves Simon or Tom from having to do it for everyone
everything will be very short ....no longer than 1 or 2 minutes..short , sweet and dignified i think..(Simon, Tom please let me know if this fits in with your plans)
if others use also photos of Ron we are probably going to need to discuss and synchronize ourselfs with who is using what, so that 7 people aren't using the same one ...unless we get new, bigger size ones from Ac.. I thought i might use this one of Ron if its ok with everyone ...

Hey, Simon
Could you give a quick "technical rider" for the video thing? Like maximum file size for sending and such.
I'm a little thick when it comes to that stuff, and if I end up having to shrink the file or convert it to this or that, there'll be a learning curve, so I'd like to go in prepared!

Yeah , I was thinking of doing a short one tomorrow , I have a nice idea....it would be 45 secs Long max , probably 30 secs or less is all I need . I can do it 720 on my video cam ,... And send it where? Yeah few rules so we all follow the same route ... we have this
1. A piece to camera or just audio (over which we can lay photos of Ron), up to 30 secs. max. in any popular video format (720 would be the preferred resolution).
2. Introduce yourself with your name, and your country of residence.
3. A few words that you would like Ron to hear if he were with us. Fond memories, his encouragement, any special joke he cracked that made you laugh (keep it clean, please).

if Simon dosent get time cause hes got a lot on his plate just do best quality u can (for 1 or 2 minutes size shouldn't be that big) try a Divx compression in a convertor ( the best quality on video the better)...if the file is too large for hotmail..just upload on youtube (set it for only people with link see it) and give him the link, he can use Getvid to download it..
or upload anywhere you know u can and give him link (any file storage or share service many are free)
your video camera or any convertor software should all ready have 1280x 720 hd resolution option

Cool. Thanks man. My girlfriend’s got a bunch of stuff, ipad and such that’ll shoot short videos and I’ve asked her to be my “producer” on this, so I should have too much trouble getting it done.
RE: Important: Plan for the Video Mo... (in reply to Florian)
Just a quick note guys, Simon got back with the funeral date its Tuesday September 11th at 11:30am
You can take until Wed the 5th now to submit your video...but I wont change at top cause its only 2 days extra, so people dont relax too much about the deadline...but if you need it ...you can take till the 5th
I am a bit concerned that so many wanna do something (according to the RIP Ron thread) the deadline is not that far off... and only a handful are replying on this thread...is everyone seeing this ? are they aware of whats going on ? the dates, the general format in which we are now doing the video message, if you haven't commented on this thread yet... if nothing else please confirm you are aware of the deadline .....we need to have some sort of general idea of how many members are doing it and what to expect to plan how much of everyone we are going to use...not get 70 unexpected submissions or 3 on the day
Everyone loves the strong silent type ...only not when u trying to plan something :-)
Id hate for anyone that wanted to do something for Ron to miss out on this cause you didn't come back to see the deadline.... please confirm that you are aware of this thread, format and deadline..which have changed a couple of times since...
lol this just reminded me of Ron's reaction at times when he was frustrated with lack of involvement or judges taking too long to score on a challenge thread (its not an exact quote, just did it from memory)
quote:
For f***ks sake how bloody hard is it folks ??!
This beginners have worked their asses off on this challenge..
Just git on there and say something, takes 2 seconds, its not that bloody hard.. honestly

Thanks Florian. I spoke for a long time with AC last night and we can have up to 10 mins of a 20 minute service, so you can see that we are pretty much sharing the eulogy with AC.
This is a key part of the proceedings and a real honour for us to pay our respects. I will be taking my large iMac and some speakers to play the video to about 50 people who will be present.
Ron won't mind if I post a quote from one of his many emails to me when things weren't going too well for him. I hope this encourages you.
quote:
I'm on a journey, but the train wasn't showing a destination when I climbed aboard. I do know that I was always resourceful, stubborn and determined when I was younger...(even in things like taking on Captain Bob to get the Forum back out of his control) lol. And I know that even though I'm much older and more tired now, that spirit must still be in there somewhere.
I'll be digging the camera out this weekend and putting on my suit.

I confirm all that too! El Kiko rules especially when it comes to the scots&Wisky
@Flo, i was thinking the same especially the deadline is near and i hope we receive the videos as soon as possible. ( i'm sending the request to all the old members i'm connected to on FB too!) As a matter of fact.. We should write on our foro page on FB too that we need the videos before the 5th of Sep.
As time is not our friend i believe there will be a video message for the funeral and thanks to the presence of Simon it will reach Ron, later on, there will be another musical video if we really received contributions form members who say something and then play a piece. so let's get back all to work

good quote ........ Whether you play all of the video or just selected parts its OK even if it is too long the family can have a copy or 2 as a momentum to watch whenever they want .....
RE: Important: Plan for the Video Mo... (in reply to Florian)
I am not going to try to add any music to this, My playing is not strong enough yet. but I wanted to say something on the thread in support. I only just found out. this is a really nice sentiment

For this, the eulogy, we do not want playing, we don't have a lot of time, so talking to the camera is fine.
