memorizing the fretboard

Reading some reviews about guitar software, I found one about a program that allows you to memorize the fretboard in less than 60 minutes.
The software costs $30 and everybody agreed that it was too much for this simple information.
Here goes;

“This amazing secret is simply that from the low E to the A, from the A to the D, from the D to the G, and from the B to the high E there are five half-steps, and four half steps between the G and the B string.
His breakthrough is the pattern they follow, which you could have figured out for yourself if you didn't already know this:
A D G C F A# D# G# C# F# B E, except that because there are four--not five--half step from the G to the B string, you go back a half step on the B string. WOW!
Here's a free mnemonic device:
All Dogs Go Cat Fighting. All Sharp Dogs# Go# Chase# Sharp Foxes w/ Big Ears
A D G C F A# D# G# C# F# B E
See the pattern? That'll be $30 please.”

…I think when he says ” go back a half step “he meant, when following this pattern vertically, advance one fret.
IMO, it is a good way to memorize and this infomation is free

Dang I don't get it

I'm a visual person you see LOL..

Can anyone tell me what it means? I've been dying to memorise the fretboard but I haven't had any success.

The way I understand it is like this , for instance: Take the A note on the 5th fret 6th string; then, also on the 5th fret (5th string)you have D and so on (following the pattern)...When arriving to 2nd string you go to 6th fret and you have F and on 6th fret 1st string you have A#.So you see starting on (A) ,D,G,C,F,A#

2x|F
3C
4G
5D
6A
Let's move to the 3th fret; following the same pattern you have (starting on G)
AD(GCFA#D#G#)C#F#BE
1x|G#
2x|D#
3A#
4F
5C
6G
This moves like a cicle; if we go on to 7th fret we have:BEADGC
1x|C
2x|G
3D
4A
5E
6B

I hope it is somehow clear

. I don't know if it is "the method " to memorize the fretboard but it sure helps to locate notes on higher frets.
