Know a flamenco/rumba guitar teacher...

Does anyone know of a flamenco/rumba guitar teacher in or around Cambridge, UK? I'm a beginner, so it doesn't have to be a maestro.

If not are there any recommendations for teachers in London or perhaps via webcam?

Any thoughts would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Hi itziar,

I don't know about a rumba teacher(!) and also I don't know about any Flamenco teachers in Cambridge (perhaps Adam knows as he lives in Cambridge if I'm not mistaken).

However, if you would be happy to travel to London, Francisco Antonio has just started group classes for begginers and intermediate students. In fact last night was the first session of the Intermediate class which was very good. The first session of the begginers' class will be on June 19th (next Tuesday).

I think he has recently started doing webcam lessons too.

Check for yourself here and get in touch with him if you wish: www.estiloflamenco.com

Good luck.
A

Itziar, I'm no teacher but I'd be happy to jam with you and maybe show you a few things! PM or e-mail me if you'd like.

I don't know of any other flamenco guitarists who live or teach in Cambridge, though there are several dance classes which you are always welcome to sit in on! Mark (mark indigo on the foro, I believe) is the person to talk to about those.

There's RAFAEL in Oxford.

(Or is Oxford a "no go" area for Cambridge folk? )

cheers,

Ron

Well, besides the obvious fact that a Cambridge man would never be caught dead in such a rough place ( ) Oxford's not so easy to get to. You have to either go through London (in which case might as well go to any of the teachers there) or take the X5 bus, which would so severely zap your will to leave that by the time you got to Oxford you'd only be able to play a tepid seguiriya.

Rumba strumming patterns: www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL2CFA955FC4ADFA05

CAGED system of chords: www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL8EB5F876D9904770

Flamenco techniques: www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL5DF8FEF0963BE67D

Unfortunately, the talking is in Arabic, but I think you can still benefit from the videos. Regarding the rumba strumming patterns, the link above is more organized than the one that Beno pointed you towards, and each video description has the steps that are involved in each pattern. Check the stuff out and let me know if you have any questions.

Cheers!

Ahhh... Thats a classical problem in human history. Very often tribes have had problems with one another because of complicated infrastructure.

For a lesson with Rafael, you would need only to get as far as Bicester which is 1/2 hr nearer on the X5 than Oxford. But still it's 5 hr round trip...

Hi Argaith,

Sorry for the delayed response and many thanks for the reply. I've had an email from Francisco about lessons which sound interesting, so I might follow that up time permitting. I'll let you know!

Thanks again!

Hi Ron,

Thanks for the message and the tip. Oxford is cool and home to my favourite band (Radiohead - is it wrong to say that on a flamenco forum?!?).

But unfortunately it's too far as others have pointed out. Every few years they talk about building a railway. But it's all talk!

Anyway, perhaps I'll find someone in London.
Cheers!

friend of mine teaches a bit in Cambridge, pm or email me and i'll put you in touch. also there is Miguel Moreno, you can google him, he has a website.

there are loads of guitarists in London, and if you're in Cambridge you are only an hour from Kings Cross by train.
