Look up "meralgia paresthetica." Also, hip pathologies can cause referred pain that is felt in the knee, but whose source is actually the hip/pelvis. Look that up too. The foot stool maybe creates a more acute angle between your thigh and body than does sitting cross-legged, and you are thin, so maybe your lateral femoral cutaneous nerve got trapped under / along the inguinal ligament. So the issue might be resulting from hip/lower back issues, and meralgia paresthetica issues. Meralgia can actually manifest with pain into the groin, or even up the abdomen/chest, as well as possibly into the knee. I got the meralgia issue when I wasn't eating well at some point and lost weight fast, so the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve was not padded well with fat anymore, and got trapped somewhat under the inguinal ligament. Whenever I would sleep on my back and stretch the nerve a bit, I would get numbness in my whole right lower extremity (thigh, leg), and would wake up in pain / total loss of sensation in the right lower extremity. To remedy, I had to start sleeping on my side with knees / hips flexed, and tried to stop putting the guitar close into my thigh/body/groin. I also tried to gain a bit of weight back. And I also had to wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait until this got better (that was in 2010). I still get numbness a bit now in the right lower extremity if I sleep on my back for a long time... The nervous system is such an amazing one, but such a difficult one to deal with if it gets injured.
