Hard case or soft case for Navarro g...

I own a Reyes model Francisco Navarro that I purchased a few months ago. The only problem I have with it is the case. The guitar is outstanding, but the case it comes with is a soft shell. Has anyone any experience with Navarro's cases? Do I need to upgrade to a hard case? I would like to keep the guitar in as good of condition as possible.

Thanks!

It depends on where the guitar is going to go. If it will stay at home in a safe place at all times, the soft case is OK. If it's going out and around town, say to someone else's place in a car, bus or train, a double-arch plywood case like this one

is probably a good idea. Make sure it fits. If it's a little loose, a rolled up T-shirt or two in the right place will take care of it.

If the guitar is traveling by airline, a flight case is a necessity, in my opinion. You may get to carry the guitar on, or you may be forced to check it as baggage. My '67 Ramirez 1a blanca has over a million miles as checked airline baggage in its flight case. Never any problem.

Good brands of flight case include Hoffee, Calton, Hiscox, Karura and others. They range from $500-600 to as much as you want to spend. Get a case cover so the case itself won't get scuffed up by the baggage-bashing machinery.

When the guitar is in the case, always latch at least one of the latches, or partially zip the soft case, even if you're just going to the kitchen to refill your coffee cup. I've seen more than one guitar dumped from an unlatched case that was picked up.

If I were you, I wouldn't dream of keeping any decent guitar in anything but a hard shell case, even if it never leaves your home.

Thanks for the critic. If I ever do any serious traveling with it I will make sure to have a hard case.

In fact, I agree with Ramon, but I didn't want to be hypocritical. My least expensive guitar, a very nice Arturo Huipe cedar/cocobolo classical, is still in the soft case it came in from Paracho.

The rest range from double arch hard cases more ot less like I linked, to out-of-production flight cases to a couple of Karuras for the collector's items.

If the Huipe goes out of the house, it usurps a hard case.

I fully agree!
