Hey Keith! Mauritius is pretty far indeed from the States! lol I was born and live in Mauritius but I have also lived a number of years abroad for my studies, mostly in England and Canada. And I will be on the move again soon to go finish my PhD in Paris. There are quite a few people playing guitar here, mostly classical, blues, rock and jazz... in fact there are some pretty good musicians. I think that I'm the only flamenco guitarist. I discovered flamenco in Canada about 5 years ago. I was studying philosophy and music... originally I was in the jazz program of the university but as soon as I discovered flamenco, I switched to the world music program in order to take as much flamenco as I could. I have also taken lessons from Miguel de la Bastide who has really ignited the flame of flamenco in me... I have since sold all my electric guitars and amps such is my dedication! lol Mauritius is a nice place to live... it's a small tropical island. Technically it's an archipelago but the main island is the most populated, together with another island name Rodrigues. On the main island, named Mauritius, people are scattered in between the cities in the center of the island and the beaches along the coast. I live by the beach in a beautiful village called Trou aux Biches. It's a nice place to live although it does get a bit tiny at times... the trick is to be able to afford to travel from time to time. If anyone on this forum is ever in Mauritius, please let me know! Would be cool to meet up! Avi
