Basic nail horticulture

I did a quick search for nailcare on here, didn't really find what I wanted to ask. Basic nail care/size/shape...I'm semi-familar with how classical players like/use their nails- are the requirements similar for flamenco- or shorter?? Thanks.

it depends. depends on your preferences, style, technique, guitar, strings, etc, etc.

i like to keep my nails somewhat shorter because they're stronger this way. but i've seen some players with intense cocaine dealer style pinky nails and dagger like thumb nails.

as opposed to a rounded shape, try a ramped shape. you should be able to see some examples if you search this foro or google it.

as for nail care, try not to dry out your nails. i rub lotion into my nails after every time i wash my hands and try to avoid doing the dishes (great excuse, it really works.)

Man, that's insane!! Curiously, what kind of lotion do you use?

All I can think of now is: "It rubs the lotion on its skin, or else it gets the hose again"

haha!

just some non girly smelly stuff from the drug store. i just have to be careful it doesn't make my fingers sticky or too slippery. actually, with a bit of lotion, it can help with playing the same way vaseline or side of nose skin oil grease does.

another benefit is that it helps the nails grow faster (i think.)
