Anoushka Shankar and Javier Limón F...

Hey all, I heard of this and thought it might be of some interest to you. Is anyone familiar with Alvaro Antona?

Thanks for the information. Here is link to a live performance she did recently in Spain with this line up with Pepe Habichuela as a guest:

The video and audio are high quality.
Enjoy!

I'd buy it or whatever but I want to be able to save this to my computer! None of the usual plug in methods work.

You have to sign up with medici.tv. It's free. Then try to connect again.
It's really a cool performance.

Sounds interesting. I saw her live twice. Once with Ravi once without. The second time she introduced once piece as "bulerias" and got me all excited. However, even though it was pretty long, at no point could I actually "find" the compas. I definitely sounded purely Indian to me (I am NO expert on Indian music) and if she didn't say it was bulerias I would not have noticed anything. It was not just the key and the scale but the rhythm was unrecognisable to me which was kind of disappointing. Either way I really like her and I doubt this could suck no matter how hard she tries :P

I didnt like this concert, i dont think the mix of sitar and flamenco worked well at all. The constant droning sound of the sitar just washs out the flamenco component and turns it into a generic 'world music' sound imo. I think this mix could be done, but the sitar would have to be used very carfully. Thats for my taste anyway, its not to say the music was terrible, just not my cup of tea.

I really don't like the productions of this Javier Limon. He does world music flamenco mixes, but always sounding too mainstream for me. He did Biouka and tons of other non interesting stuff.
He also worked with Estrealla Morente and all the songs that he produced are the ones I don't like from her.

You know, I was thinking the same thing. Flamenco is like the pulse of Gaia whereas Indian is more like the movements of heavenly bodies.
Because of this I would think that it is the Indian instruments that would need to adapt to the Spanish ones.
And god for bid that we hear generic 'world music'! ewww! Ever hear a fakemenco 'Stairway to Heaven'? <gag>
