Well mate, who am I to judge? However, here are my 2 cents:

1- The choice of pieces by Dimitris was obviously harder than that of the other dude.

2- The other dude displayed a wider range of dynamics while performing.

3- Dimitris made more obvious mistakes in his performance - especially Paganini.

I guess that's why he came in second, and the other dude emerged victorious.

Cheers!

PS: Dimitri rules - he has a BRIGHT future in guitar ahead of him. Olé!

hi
pretty much agree with ramzi..
who were the judges?
the second guy had a bigger 'classical' tone with more tonal variation. more 'classically' mannered than dimitri..more expressive...more variation in right hand dynamics..[ figure same camera same spot...]
i do like dimitri's brighter tone and more rhythmic approach...less of that 'strategic' rubato thing going on....[ more to my personal preference]
sometimes a simple thing like posture [ ie footstool left leg/right leg ] can sway a conservative panel as well..[seems ridiculous but...]
of course i think they both 'deserve' it...two good performances under pressure...can't see anything obviously wrong with the decision given the parameters of a classical guitar comp.....the second guy plays more in the tradition whereas dimitri is probably a more 'diverse' player [ an assumption but could see him playing some flamenco unlike the second guy]
pity the feedback from the judges lacked transparency...

ps...also noticed Dimitri took the 2010 prize with the barrios Vals....maybe this may have contributed to the other guy taking 2011....
does 'the other guy' have a name?
