Another newbie Guitar Question !

Hey Folks,

I am planning to buy my first beginner Flamenco Guitar ! yippee !. I like the sitting position of Paco De Lucia (atleast I wanna sit like him :-D).

I kindaa of decided on a Cordoba F10 or Francisco Navarro Student. But this video totally blew me off.

From the video I understood that there are two sizes of Flamenco Guitars.

I stay in india and have no option of trying out different flamenco guitars personally(not available here). So I thought of checking with you guys, like which is the best buy for beginner 'paco like' guitar. My budget is around $1200.

-gracias,

Bernal Guitars (de Jerez) do some lower price Flamenco models with a great Flamenco sound and are built properly.

cheers,

Ron

For that price I'd go for a Navarro

Hey rssrik!

You can sith however you like wether its a blanca or a negra and wathever size(unless its some huge monster thing )

about a year ago i went out with the same budget as you, and went with a fransisco navarro student blanca, it is great for the price.

you could also see if there are any used guitars around, maybe someone here has one in good condition that fits your budget.

Good luck!

To add to the newbee questions:

I'm playing on a classic guitar so far. So what is the difference between a blanca and a negra?

Thanks for the advice guys. One of my friend's is in Barcelona for official trip this week. He tried searching for cordoba/francisco navarro there, but didnt get it (as they are made in US!).

If any of you know/from barcelona(spain), can you help me with the addresses of trusted Guitar Shops and trusted local brands :)

-Thanks

The extra size does project the sound....that coupled with the bracing I believe actually OVERPROJECTS the sound and the bass notes in particular have too much sustain and volume creating an imbalanced effect.....for a slow Rondena may sound OK....but try playing a Bulerias and it reallly muddies up the sound......The basses on these guitars are simply too overpowering IMO.

Yes - I'm going with the flow on this. Maybe I missed the boat, but I thought that the whole point about the shallow body (as you've stated Rum) was to help to reduce the sustain and therefore help attack. As far as I understand, negras have a hardwood of choice, but not necessarily a big deep body. This would result in a "compromise" of good projection yet still retain the attack without the sustain. Maybe I got this wrong, but thats how I've come to understand and I just got really confused when I saw the big deep body in the first video. I think Ron got it when he says that Bernal Guitars are "built properly"
