Objective background is what it takes a goods to come about.
Everything else is justification for additional margins.

lol... You're missing the point, That's a high end/boutique shopping list you have there.

Let's just take a very good budget electric guitar. A PRS SE Soapbar. Great guitar, great playability and sounds pretty good as standard. What's the Flamenco equivalent?

I know I used some high end stuff to illustrate my point
But the point is still valid... you can get some really decent mid-range flamenco guitars, which would be the equivalent of a PRS SE... check out Hermanos Sanchis Lopez, Fransisco Navarro, Pedro de Miguel (they have a really good student line of guitars) etc

Oh I know... but the difference is that when it comes to electric guitar playing, an amp is an integral part of your instrument - Eric Johnson goes as far as hand picking his cables because every little aspect determines the final tone.

Thats really an aspect i consider important/advantage in acoustic instruments. At one point i was messing around with electric but put it aside quickly because of this.

Deniz... that's part of the reason why I don't play my electric much... it's just so frustrating to get a good sound out of it without a lot of fiddling around and without waking up the neighbors!

To come back to the subject at hand, I think that we are really living in the golden age of guitar making... it's really been democratized and there are guitars for any budgets now. There are lots of really good makers out there (whether electric, folk, classical and flamenco guitar), and despite there being some very expensive options, you can still find some very decent gear that will fit any budget... it's all a question of taking the time to look for them.

I agree, they're all on equal footing except for the price. The FN student model would still cost two or three times the price of the PRS. The HSL would be 4 to 5 times the price.

I just know that if I went shopping with £1000 I'd get a pretty decent electric or acoustic guitar that I'd want to keep. However, I doubt I'd get a flamenco guitar for that money. You can just about get your foot on the flamenco ladder for £1000 when buying new.

Perhaps the title of the thread is wrong. Flamenco guitars are no more expensive than other guitars it's just that with flamenco you seem to have to spend a fair bit more before they start getting good.

Are we talking about the same FN student model? It costs $650-$850 depending on who you buy it from.

Yeah, that's the one. In the UK I'd have to get it from La Sonanta at €1200 which is still double that of the Guitars

The PRS is just an example but you get the gist. Also what you pay in USD we pay the same in GBP making the same guitar 1.5 x more expensive here in general.

Ay-yay!

Add "importation costs" and "price-gouging" to your reasons.
