Serranito

I am very new to this forum, but a few searches have shown me that Serranito is often forgotten in the mass of talented guitarists out there.

There is something about his playing I really like. Believe it or not, I find him pretty playful I guess is the word I would use. This is to me an important quality in a flamenco player. The prime example for me is Ramon Montoya, who I find very playful in his falsetas and compositions, and of course Paco whose playing just has it all.

Serranito is a great player, I really like him .. I like "the classical mixed with flamenco flavour" he plays , he has some great compositions I'm keeping in my mind to play when I get the right technique.

Apparently, if you're lucky enough to live in the US, he gives one-to-one masterclasses.

Says here

he gave a concert in Almeria less than a month ago, and that he teaches classes at--or at least in association with--Ramirez's shop in Madrid, his home town.

One of the techniques you'll find intriguing is his "abanico". It's done with three fingers as usual, however, he does it with thumb{up}, middle{down}, index{down}. When the index comes down, he has trained his pinkie to do a golpe. this way he can tap out various compas signatures as he does the abanico.
Serranito stopped in Paulino Bernabe's shop one day back in the 1970's and I asked him how he did it and he was gracious and patient in his explanation. He can be heard doing this in Bulerias "Fiesta en Jerez" on the album "Into Flamenco". I don't know how to upload an audio file so you can hear it, but I hope you can find it out there somewhere - it's well worth the search.
