Takamine 132

I want to take some Flamenco lessons online, but I dont have a nylon at present ( I took classical for a couple of semesters in college, but only have a steel string atm).

There are some really good deals on Takamine 132s out there because there are so many of them, but of course they are a classical guitar.

Should I hold off another couple of months until I can afford a Navarro Student 1? Or get the Takamine? Would it be adequate to begin with?

Also anyone know anything about the Alhambra 5F?

Also Ive seen some Navarros on Ebay going for $750 brand new...are they legit do you think?

Another thing Ive thought about is getting the Takamine and then modifying it a bit like shaving the bridge to lower the action, putting on golpedors and quality flamenco strings...I think the saddle may already be bone but Id have to check....is there anything else I could do to modify it at low cost?

I dont know if its possible to have laquer put on it or if that would even be cost effective..

Any ideas would greatly be appreciated as Im not so experienced in making these adjustments if thats my best option...and I think it may be because Im not so excited about the tone of the 171SF and Im a poor guy whos made bad decisions in life

Don't waste your time and money buying a classical guitar and then going through a whole rigamarole of modifying it, etc. Get a flamenco guitar. Alhambra makes fine flamenco guitars, but don't spend the money on a 5F as you asked about. The 3F is pretty much the same guitar, and will cost you a lot less. Also look at the Cordoba F7.

If you can afford it, the Navarro student would be a good choice, if you can get it for the right price. And if you're on a tight budget, that Yamaha 171SF would serve you fine to get started on at a very low price. It's been discontinued, but you might get a good buy on a used one.

I like the Takamine C132 for classical. I wouldn't get it for flamenco.

It sounds like you can afford the Navarro. I would get that. I think one of our foro members got a Navarro from the seller "*hga*" on eBay. He will likely take a Best Offer of $650. His last two sales were for $649 and $650.

There, I just saved you $100.

If you are really on a tight budget, then go to the forum delcamp.us and find the member who goes by the name of Nacio de Falla. He may still have a mint-condition CG171SF. He will sell it to you for $250 (with a decent case included) plus shipping. He is a teacher, a performer, an online friend, and a reputable seller. He knows his guitars.
