Jose Tanaka's online lessons (www.fl...

Hello mates,

After I won the prize from the intermediate challenge I received couple of messages from members asking me about Jose Tanaka’s lessons, so I thought I should share a review with you guys.

Some members here are already taking lessons from Mr.Tanaka so maybe they can help me complete the review or even correct my mistakes if I'm saying something wrong or not true.

I haven’t checked everything on the site yet because I’m on exams right now, but I went through most of the stuff there.

Let me start!!

First
Mr.Tanaka is very generous and nice, you can feel through his lessons how hard he tries to give everything he knows , his lessons are rich I mean he talks about many things during the individual lesson(technique , theory, Soniquete, performing etc …) and he is so nice when it comes to questions he answers everything and in a short time.

Second
His lessons about technique are the best lessons I saw so far because they are so clear and fully detailed and he really covers things I haven't seen in any other instructional source, he covers most of the techniques and he provides exercises for each technique also most his videos are taken with several angles and speeds. I will definitely improve my technique because I already came across many things I didn’t have any idea about previously and I was doing wrong ... So if you’re concerned about your technique being performed in a wrong way, these lessons will definitely clear everything for you.

Third
Mr.Tanaka has covered most Palos with reasonable amount of lessons and Falsetas, major Palos like (Solea, Bulerias , Alegrias etc…….) has more lessons than minor ones like (Guajiras,Zapateado etc ….) but obviously Mr.Tanaka is posting more and more lessons every week or so for various Palos, also tabs are provided for almost all the pieces. And for some of you guys who are wondering are the lessons suitable for beginners, I would surely say yes … because Mr.Tanaka breaks the piece into very detailed concepts he talks about every single note. also each piece is classified as a ( beginner , intermediate , advanced ) you can find that on the title of the piece .

Forth
I got so excited when I saw the accompaniment section; it’s so cool I really enjoyed watching lessons there, some for cante and others for baile from different palos, talking about Silencio, Llamada and some other concepts I’m not familiar with.

Fifth
The theory section is awesome, Mr.Tanaka is really showing good amount of theory and harmony lessons which will lead you to learn how to improvise at the end… scales, chords, forms etc… improvising seems to be very important case for Mr.Tanaka , crucial case I could say.

Sixth
I think that Mr.Tanaka has created an amazing site,
The site is so elegant and easy to use because it is divided very well into clear categories…. Palos, technique, theory, accompaniment, updates etc. ….. And there are indexes lead you to your goal without getting lost.

Seventh
The video and sound qualities of his lessons are in a high-resolution, crystal-clear and noise-free and that’s great because everything will be clear and so comfortable for you to learn.

Finally
I think this Is all what I remember for now, I hope I’m not sounding like an advertiser or something… you know me guys I’m just sharing my opinion ^^ .whether you're beginner or intermediate I can highly recommend the site because I’m sure that I will develop my musical skills very good , and yes I’m sure after my subscription ends I will keep paying for a membership there because new lessons are added constantly, also the price is more than reasonable in my opinion. I will be posting some vids soon of my progress ( as soon as I finish my finals ) and you will check them your self .
Cheers
Elie

Thanks for posting in such detail. I subscribed for a month about 5 minutes after reading you post.

The funny thing is... I used to live about 1/2 hr away from Jose and was planning on taking private lessons from him but moved out of California because the cost of living was too high. So glad to hear that he offers on-line lessons.

Ohayo gozaimasu Mr. Tanaka san

I subscribed earlier this month and I'm quite pleased with the lessons. I feel that I'm a beginner and I get a lot out of every lesson. He does a lot of discussions and you can message him and he'll give you clarifications. Not everything is fully tabbed though, unfortunately, but the video lessons suffice. He's also hard to work in meeting your expectation so he'll tab it out if you ask or clear up certain points in the video. Very stellar! There's also a lesson in learning how Jerez style sounds vs Moron as well as Modern vs Traditional accompaniment which I like best. I definitely recommend his website. The cost is very reasonable for what you can get out of it.

yeah, he really breaks things down well.

although it's tempting to just get the tabs and rush through the falseta, the explanations are really worth watching, because he points out small details that makes it easier or more efficient to play or makes it sound better that you might otherwise miss.

great, in depth review, D.E.D! i'm glad you like the site!

I really like his site too, there is a wealth of different material (i.e. covering specific styles such as Jerez/Moron as mentioned above), stuff on accompaniment and so on.

One thing I'm not too fond of is the fact that in the explanation parts he always talks soooo slowly, but that may just be my impatient nature

Great review!

I also signed up recently. Very cool stuff

The only thing I was bummed out was that there wasn't any lessons for Farruca. I was hoping to expand my Farruca falsetas.

I might make a note to Jose Tanaka about it

Wow, I just going through reading your post and Jose Tanaka's sounds like a great site as well.

I am stumbling on some techinques and you state that the lessons are also suitable for beginners, well, I am in between beginner and maybe intermediate, so maybe I should check out his site as well!

Thank you for your review!
