My dog River died tonight
Some of you may know of my dog, River. Some have even met him. Well, the Grim Reaper came calling, so I had to send him to sleep tonight. We went through a lot together in 12 years, including those years in Spain where we had a lot of time to play in the hills and snuggle by the fire on chilly nights.
He was a very special dog and I will never be quite the same person without him. So, a toast to River. The biggest, stupidest, softest Ridgeback in the whole World.

Oh man thats sad.. my condolences!
But he had a good life right.. ? So ..12 years is a good age. I guess he was happy all the time. I think I remember you taped your buddy in a video where you played in the background very nice classical guitar music by villa lobos.

Sorry to hear. I'm a big lover of dogs as well and I can only imagine how it must hurt. Wish you strength in this hard time. But like I read in other comments as well, you should have a ton of beautiful memories which I hope you will cherish!

Sorry to hear that Simon, my thoughts are with you. I will never forget him, alltough i only saw him on a video from you. Never heared of a ridgback before, but if I ever take a dog, it will be a Ridgeback. Such a beautifull and sympathic dog...

Very sorry to hear that and my condolences. My Airedale is 7 years old, I hope I get a lot more years out of her. It will be very sad in our family when she passes, so I think I know what you are going through.

My condolences to you, Simon. I remember those pictures and videos of him in Andalucia in the fields and the canal. River sure seemed like a great dog! My neighbor has a ridgeback, great dog as well.

Sorry to hear that, Simon. Dr.Fitzgerald, my retriever mix, died end of September at age 12 and a half, so I know exactly what you're going through ...

Simon, Deepest condolences. It's the hardest aspect of being friends with a critter, but it's still one of the greatest relationships a person can have. I'm sure River had a great life.

We come to love them so. They set such an example, bringing out the best in us. You are fortunate to have had such a great friend. The pain will pass. The good memories will not.

Without empathy for fellow creatures there is no true empathy and human being. My condolences!
( Though wished eversince, never had the conditions for appropriate keeping of a dog, but for cats. My tomcat now getting old I can´t even think of how to get through, the day if he wouldn´t be around anymore. He will be 14 in spring with the time having passed by in a blink.)
The serious drawback with pets is the short period they live.

Simon,
I'm so sorry to read about the loss of such a special companion - I only met him once when you guys visited Stephen Hill in La Herradurra about 5 years ago to check out a bar that was available for rent (I was a student of his at the time). I have since lost both of my Retrievers at 15 and 16 years old - I've now got a labradoodle, she's special, as were the other two, she lives alongside their memories and not as a replacement.
If you ever get another dog I hope it is loved as much as River...
My condolences,
Peter the Geordie
