A new lesson website....... Corey Whitehead. The dude that entered a competition using Richard Marlowe's Tanguillo and won and then forgot to tell the truth about it.

That was completely incoherent.
It was like he was talking without thinking. I am having to guess what the hell he means...how is that a lesson?
As for the playing... that was about as spastic as a beginner looking at a chart for the first time. No rhythm, no discernable pulse, no dynamics and it didnt flow at all.
RE: http://flamencoprofessor.com (in reply to JasonMcGuire)
its just knowledge shared for free, with no harm meaning or commercial interests? you can use it or leave it. be happy that the teaching and playing is not super notch quality like on Diaz' channel. this way people will gladly pay for your lessons, Jason.
RE: http://flamencoprofessor.com (in reply to XXX)
Diaz is indeed a kick ass player. I have always said that even when he was calling me a fake. I did post some incriminating evidence about his fashion judgement though. I probably crossed the line there. Thank goodness Corey has a super notch quality fashion sense so I won't get in trouble like that again.
I think what Diaz does is great for people who want to learn. I just came across Corey's stuff and thought it should be shared.
I do know that at least Paco's management aren't too happy about Diaz's use of Paco's name and image..... I wonder what my friend Trini who is Manolo Sanlucar's manager thinks about Corey's use of Sanlucar's name.
Of course its great to have access to free material.

yeah its not so good for learning, but really there is far FAR worse stuff on youtube. you are just a little "spoiled" by the flamencos around you, but the dark world of youtube is full of pre-beginner noobs trying to teach guitar. compared to them this Corey guy is better. but anyway you may be right about the use of prominent names. i dont judge that as im just a student of guitar, thats all i am.
RE: http://flamencoprofessor.com (in reply to JasonMcGuire)
its neither ethical, nor unethical. its politics. its politics why u use the name of this or that player. you show your interest for a player (as admiration) or want to generate interest for yourself or the player. you can argue that what he plays has nothing to do with Manolo Sanlucar, but that doesnt mean any harming intention by Corey. maybe he just doesnt know it better, you know?

WTF ? Do you mean he played Richard's Tanguillo without crediting him or he actually sent in Richard playing his Tanguillo pretending he played it himself ? Either way pretty appalling !
RE: http://flamencoprofessor.com (in reply to Kate)
We should let Richard tell the story.... I am sure there is a logical explanation for all of this and Corey will come along any moment and clear things up.

Quote from the earlier thread on this guy:
"Thanks for your concern guys. Cory is like a brother to me, he can play whatever he wants of mine, I am flattered anyway. THanks for the find by the way!

I just heard from Corey. He is working with Manolo Sanlucar......
quote:
I am doing my best to teach my students... and I have great news. Manolo Sanlucar is donating his entire life's work and archives to my University's Henry Madden Library, and he will be a visiting Professor here starting May 23rd, 2011. He and I founded The Institute for the Dissemination of Flamenco, that he says from his mouth, "will have all of my resources, and all of my people, and will be unquestionably the number one institution for the study of flamenco, and if anyone from Spain wants to study his works with him, they will have to come to Fresno." I have it on record with our Associate Vice-President for Continuing and Global Education. I would love to share this with you guys. I hope we can get to know each other better, and please tell me i I should change anything on my site, and if my lessons suck, I will try to get better. Un cordial Saludo!

Ha ha! This stuff makes me laugh, it is comedy gold I tell you GOLD! And I mean all around.
Is it your period also?
Funny that when Diaz called you a fake! Another piece of comedy GOLD! The father of Fakemenco called a Fake! Oh the audacity!!!
Diaz should be allowed on this site once a year for a month to clean-out the cobwebs.
Anyways, carry-on! We need the pot stirred-up every once in a while.
With tongue in cheek, and lots of respect too...
PS another bit of comedy gold was when Todd said you pounded on the guitar too much, and then you upload a lesson and speak all about dynamics! PS love the lessons...
PPS why not give an objective review? What is stopping you???

I clicked on a video from this guy a while ago. In that one, he did happen to mention that he was a student of Ricardo. He then advised the viewer to check out Ricardos website etc.. I'm just imagining Manolo Sanlucar losing his temper over this..
RE: http://flamencoprofessor.com (in reply to JasonMcGuire)
Yeah, it doesn't do it for me. I went to Youtube and the first video started playing, then he is being introduced as Doctor Corey Whitehead...
The Doctor thing is just weird, the only other place I heard this is a guy from Toronto. I don't think you would ever meet a real flamenco musician that would introduce himself as Doctor. And then there is the reading chords as he plays, WTF teacher is that!
And finally his website does not work for me, both in IE and Firefox, you can't click on the sub-menu options. I thought that maybe it was a game and that you had to move the mouse real fast and maybe I'd win a prize or something, another free lesson maybe... but no success (thank god).

"I have been doing flamenco 16 hours a day since 2002, and have played 16 hours a day since 1983, rock, jazz, classical, brazilian. I speak Portuguese, Spanish, English, German, Arabic. I have a doctorate in performance and am ABD in music theory. My CV will be up on Flamenco Professor soon because I can't possibly list all of my accomplishments here." Doctor Whitehead
