The 2008 movie "Vicky Cristina Barcelona" directed by Woody Allen and starring Scarlett Johansson has the main theme of "Entre Dos Aguas" in it and other guitar music as well including Juan Serrano..
RE: Vicky Cristina Barcelona movie (in reply to jg7238)
music is nice...movie was ok...i dont know if i am reading too much into it but lately i get this feeling that whatever movie Woddy Allen does .."Whatever works " is his most recent...its almost trying to justifie or make his past scandals seem not so bad...
hey everyone is cheating is having threesomes, turning lesbian , turning gay, orgies, having sex with ridiculously young women, mom moved in and having a relationship with 2 men, dad turned gay, daughter is in love with a guy 3 times her age, so don't think of me badly for cheating on my wife with my adopted stepdaughter that we adopted together etc. i...its all normal...its ok ...its just life...play that light jazzy music in the background and a confident narrator with a non judgmental voice over it and it dosent seem so out of the ordinary
lately his movies are somewhat too transparent and self indulgent for my taste..wasting film and 1 hour and a half of my time ..trying to justifie some strange choices to someone who dosent even care...when i first saw Vicky Cristina Barcelona..i didnt really think about it, i liked it but after seeing "Whatever Works" too...its too much of the same for it to be a coincidence it feels like a justification

I guess that's it in a nutshell, Flo--lol! I'll skip the movie based on your review. Maybe Woody and Roman Polanski should collaborate on a project--although I'd hate to think what that would be about...

that's too much responsibility for me...don't do it on my review alone lol...i could also be reading too much into it...i dont know...what do others who have seen both movies think ?
RE: Vicky Cristina Barcelona movie (in reply to Florian)
Honestly, I could care less about people's personal lives. After all, we are all human beings anyway. I thought the movie was decent and the music was good. This is actually the first time i see one of his movies , and it was because one of my guitar students said I should take a look at it because it had some nice guitar music. I thought it wasn't bad overall.
RE: Vicky Cristina Barcelona movie (in reply to jg7238)
no the movie itself is not bad....and like i said...if you see it by itself fine, just funny situations, fairly entertaining comedy...u don't think of this sort of things but if u see, Whatever Works too...u start to wonder...wait is this guy actually trying to say something with all this movies and characters ?...
RE: Vicky Cristina Barcelona movie (in reply to Mike_Kinny)
.....or u could just say what u said the first time ...i kind of agree anyway...i mean i like it, its fine it but I heard it like a million times...i am over it

I agree with this.. it's worth watching just to be completely mesmerised by Scarlett Johansson for 90 mins.. not only pretty, but a fabulous actress. She outclasses everyone on the set by a mile.

Yep - but his earlier work is great IMO .. Annie Hall, Broadway Danny Rose, Play it Again Sam, Hannah and her Sisters.

Really, the sole reason why i posted this thread was not about whether the movie was good or bad but the music that was in it.
I know Jg, sorry didn't mean to hijack your thread...but It made me think of the movie too and what i thought of it...subject seemed appropriate enough..it would have been silly of me to make another thread and call it "Vicky Cristina Barcelona movie movie" just to be able to talk about the movie a little bit :-)
but really what kind of discussion were you expecting about the background music in a movie that we have heard before in full on other recordings ?
" Yeah music was good" or " No music was bad"
anyway, il stop talking about his movies ...i let you guys discus the music in it ..

I liked Match Point,
Ha i didn't realize he did that one...i liked that
I must admit i haven't seen many of his old movies...but out of curiosity i might check some out..
RE: Vicky Cristina Barcelona movie (in reply to jg7238)
It's ok Florian, don't worry about it. I just thought that it was pretty cool that they used "Entre Dos Aguas" pretty often through out the movie; that's all. Thnx for posting the videos Cuerdas.

I think there's some classical guitar music in the film as well. IMO, his best films were made from the mid-1970s until the end of the 80s. I highly recommend "Bullets Over Broadway."
RE: Vicky Cristina Barcelona movie (in reply to NormanKliman)
Bullets over Broadway is my favorite Allen movie too. I thought Mighty Aphrodite was very funny as well. These movies relied purely on having fantastic scripts and for me are his most creative period. The latest films are not bad but lets face facts......its difficult not to make a watchable movie with Scarlett Johansson in it. Frankly anyone could make a movie featuring Scarlet kissing Penelope Cruz and have an instant phenomenal sucess. I agree with Flo, its cheating
( I wonder if I could get Scarlett to do my CD cover)

Which has almost the same falseta as his other work, "Tempestad." When I saw the movie I thought it was some type of "Tempestad" remix. Both are lively pieces of music that I like. "Tempestad" I have just learned and will proceed on to "Cueva Gitana" next.
I found the movie hilarious especially when he tries to hit on both chicks at the same time.
